Poll: Which Stella, fella?

There are two gorgeous Stellas in the upcoming Heritage auction. One I liked; the other I loved. Which is your preference?

(I saw both in person last week in St. Louis, and it was a treat to be holding one in each hand).

Stella A:

Stella B:

And, for the fellow Dead Heads:

All the years combine, they melt into a dream,
A broken angel sings from a guitar.
In the end theres just a song comes cryin up the night
Thru all the broken dreams and vanished years.
Stella blue. stella blue.

When all the cards are down, theres nothing left to see,
Theres just the pavement left and broken dreams.

In the end theres still that song comes cryin like the wind.
Down every lonely street thats ever been
Stella blue. stella blue.

Ive stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel, cant win for trying.
Dust off those rusty strings just one more time,
Gonna make them shine, shine

It all rolls into one and nothing comes for free,
Theres nothing you can hold, for very long.
And when you hear that song come crying like the wind,
It seems like all this life was just a dream.
Stella blue. stella blue.

I chose A because B looks too prooflike. I'm not a big fan of classic proof gold. I'd pick the one that looks more like a regular circulation strike.

edite because I just realized all 4$'s are proofs image

Hard to tell from the pics. The color on "A" looks odd, and the "B" coin looks a little bit more market-acceptable. If I had to choose, I would settle for B.

Admittedly, the Heritage photos did not do the coins justice. image

I'll never be a situation to have to pick between two stellas. Just a wee bit beyond my reach. But in a fantasy world I will pick B.

    Wirebrush or fingerprint.
    I'll pass on both.

I would go with B in a wish list being I could not swing either of these ladies-- both of which I would love to own.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

My in-hand opinion was that coin A is a lovely, original proof coin and coin B is an NCS'ed headlight that looks like much of the rest of the proof 19th century gold on the market. Don't get me wrong; I liked coin B. I loved coin A. So far, the bidders like coin B better, too. Sigh image If everyone feels that way, it won't be long before coin A looks like coin B, and another original 19th century gold coin will bite the dust. image
  • I agree with RYK - it was A hands down.

speaking of stellas, did anyone see the mailing from heritage about patterns?

3 different aluminum stella's, and a $20 stella (plus some others I think)

Stella B has a spot by L in DOL. and a spot on the left side of the star. I'd go with Stella A.

    B
I like coin A, but it looks like a weak strike in the hair and it appears to have hairlines. Even though I see more marks on B ,it looks from the picture like a cameo and the details are sharper. Be that as it may, it is the primary reason I picked B. If I could afford one, it would not be NCS'd image that is for sure. Given that information prior to first posting, I'd have certainly taken the "untampered with" specimen.
