1927-S MS65 Saint photo by Mike Printz...You want BIG!! Here's BIG!!

EDIT: No compression of the pic NOW!! image

I hope this isn't seen as "showmanship"...quite a few posters asked that I post this coin once it was shot by Mike. I think these pics are exactly what the coins look like.

Also I am including my recent BROWNING 1929 MS65(66image) as well. The copper spot below the "R" in AMERICA was how I spotted the pedigree!! This coin is easily the nicest 1929 I have seen. One day it will have the appropriate label. image Both of these are extraordinary coins in every sense of the word. I was VERY lucky to find these from the most secret of sources. image

Sorry for the size, but I'm at work and I can't reduce from here...

1927-S MS65

1929 MS65 (the darkish area around the left of Liberty is actually a "mirror" surface...with a satiny, frosted one encompassing that. It is NOT a spot or anything other than screaming lustre.)

Show 'em if 'ya got 'em.... image Absolutely amazing coins!!!

...but please ease up on the jpg compression. image Maybe I'm just a photo geek, but it is annoying that such beautiful coins and photos should have those annoying square-like artifacts. image

Regardless of the above quibble, awesome coins and thanks for sharing...Mike

    Harvard?

I'd prefer Princeton...but I have a feeling someone's daughter is gonna go where she wants to go....(I have 7 years to worry)

Just don't let it be U Wisc. Madison, U of Miami, or 'Zona State. I don't trust those wild kids like I was. image

BTW..don't overlook the 27-S. It's possibly bigger than the 1929. Even if the 29 goes MS66.

    Outstanding coins!

Do you have a pic of your former '29 for comparison?

Ask Mike Printz. He took the pics and even hosted them. I don't see what you are talking about. Can you show me any catalogue that has pictures better than these? Little squares? image

Look very closely at the fields. You may have to get very close to your monitor to see it, but you will see small square-like artifacts all over the image about the size of the letter O. They look like jpeg artifacts (because they are square), although a (bad) resizing (algorithm) could also be the culprit.

    PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!

All I have to look at very close up are the coins. No one ever paid $$ for coin pictures. Do you sniff your screen often? image

You mean the photos are scratch and sniff? image

You're probably right, I'm just making a mountain out of a molehill because I'm truly envious of those coins. image

Again, thanks for sharing. Take care...Mike

I HATE to say this, Mr. MikeInFla., but I just noticed something.

The pics as posted are not as sharp as the pictures on my computer. There's something that occurs in the process that makes a noticeable difference.

Just trust me...these are quite acceptable coins.image

Folks, let me just say that I had the extreme pleasure of seeing this latest 1929 in a dimly lit, dark oak paneled establishment, and that 1929 brought forth a glowing aura into an otherwise foreboding cavern.image Exceptional!! That 31-D isn't bad either....pity you didn't have a 27-D too... imageimage

OK, I am not seeing why the new '29 is an upgrade from the old '29. Saintguru, please fill me in on what I am missing!

It's resizing artifacts. I can't duplicate it with Photoshop, but I can with MS Paint. A quick and dirty bilinear interpolation doesn't play nice in the frequency domain and causes aliasing, which manifests itself as a grid on the image. Look closely at these two as I hijack SG's thread of beauty Saints with a VT commem. The first is the original saved from Photoshop. The second was resized in MS Paint. The artifact is most noticeable on Ira Allen's cheek.

    there's a big difference.

The new one is a LOCK MS66..It sold in the Texas Bank/Browning sale. At the time the Price 1929 was considered the best 1929 there was. This coin is EQUAL to the Price coin...both from the cataloguer and the opinion of Steve Duckor who knew every Price coin well.

The old 1929 was a 65.5...this is a 66.2 IMO. When you get into coins that look like this you have to see them in hand. NO picture can describe them.

  • Aren't you getting tired of collecting Saints?
  • saintgurusaintguru Posts: 7,727 ✭✭✭
No. I am actually quite enjoying this new strategy I've embarked on.

And you never get tired off loooking at them. I know some collectors who are playing the holder game. They chase printed grades and not the coin. They couldn't tell you what any of their coins look like. I could describe them with extreme detail. I like them.image

A very nice showcase of 2 highly sought after key date Saints. Your collection of these golden ladies is outstanding with emphasis on quality being a must. Your pictures make the coins come alive.
  • saintgurusaintguru Posts: 7,727 ✭✭✭
NOW you can see the pics as shot...with no compression.

Man....I would rarely post a coin pic this big because of the stuff that shows up, but these two stand the test.
