I was imaging some buffaloes tonight and I was rather pleased with how this one came out, so I thought I would share. image

Excellent pics. I also like your economy set-up, {previous post, photo stand}. Like the way you improvise.

Very nice pics. What grade would you assign the coin? Curious since I don't know buffalos that well.

sweet set up I like it.

Ok on the grade, I wasn't too far off. I was thinking 65. Maybe I gave it an extra point for the photo technique.

    Well thanks. image

I think the strike is a bit soft for a 65. Plus, there is obvious die wear on the coin, notably the obverse on the Indian's neck.

nice photos! 3 quick questions: What camera are you using? What possibly could be done to smooth out the glare on the reverse between 3 and 5 o'clock? What are the wattages on the two different lights? Looks like one is a halogen and one incandecent. thanks...

Fantastic, Amanda! Is that the coin you got from me? I think those images very accurately depict the appearance of that coin. My camera, though rendering my Buffs in a flattering way, don't shoot them as "honestly" as yours. Doesn't matter how much I monkey with my settings. Nice job, kiddo.
    Guy

I agree that coin is MS64, for the exact reason you cite--a bit of striking softness, apparent in the hair knot on the obverse, and on the Buffalo's head and hide on the reverse. But a very nice coin indeed!
    image
  • Wow!!! great pictures. That coin is a perfect candidate for a high grade carved HOBO nickel. The dated 1913's with a good carving bring in big dollars.

    Just kidding, great looking coin.

Guitarwes- I used a halogen desk lamp and a incandescent lamp, you're right! image

Guy, yes that is the coin I got from you. It's my favoritest buffalo. image And indeed, a very nice specimen!

Coinhog- you sure better be kidding! imageimageimage

Mark, I have finally realized that taking the coins out of the albums makes it A LOT easier to take pictures! imageimage

I recently shot a Dansco Album full of coins. The Album does make it a bit tougher at times. I managed to shot the whole album of coins with the coins left in the album, but it was more challenging.
