Actually the brown napkins are not as processed, it is the white napkins that have more chemicals in them. They are bleached (chlorine) to make them white.

I have had some junk coins on my desk for way longer than my Taco Bell Napkin. They sit on white napkins to keep from scraping on the desk. No toning at all.
I tried it. I was amazed at the results, my PCGS holders toned beautifully! Unfortunately, when I cracked the coins out, they looked the same......must of done something wrong......hope they don't get downgraded when I resubmit them!
I probably should have told my wife about my experiment. I checked all the window sills in my house and can't find my coins. She probably threw them away.
Not a Taco Bell napkin, but I ripped a printed page out of an old thesarus and wrapped a Frankie it it. In a matter of a few months it is starting to tone very nice.
I have 6 different coins that I'm trying this with one is an 1821 bustie- and it is taking on a really nice golden tone, the other was a pure white 65 sms Kennedy- same kind of toning around the rim- and surging to the fields- it also is looking good so far.
I'm gonna let em sit for the 1 yr duration then phot them. I did take pics of the before TB and one at 6 months.
I can only say the first time I saw this, that and the other as it pertains to coins, I laughed. I still do.
I'm a purist as it pertains to these orbs. Toning is the result of chemical/thermal/moisture exposure. This, in the scientific realm is at least a molecular change, by the mere term "exposure". Somethin damaged the PURITY of the metal and it's deviated drastically from it's MINT STATE. It might be purdy but it certainly ought not be accepted numismatically as WORTH more. Stripping away impurities post mintage , i.e. gunk, oils, grease, dirt, etc.... is bathing a coin. (again, using chemicals) The market accepts a lot of things that purists will never accept. blah blah blah blah blah

Guys, Guys, Guys....................look at the number of participants in this post! Does this mean that most everyone here thinks it's ok to start toning up batches of coins for future sale as NT or even AT coins?
Or is this just a forum discussion by would-be metallurgists, conducting their own garage experiments to see what they get? I suspect that NT is not reproducable because all of the variables are not known, and/or reproducable. Time will tell, I guess.
What concerns me is - does this mean that there will be a flood of new toners sometime between now and 5 years from now? Or is this just a way to be able to identify and document AT stuff when all these experiments are done.
Since coin collecting is a personal choice anyway, I don't care if anyone decides to tone the crap out of a coin. If it turns out gorgeous and they can sell it for $1,000.00, who really cares? I think what a person decides to collect is totally a personal decision.
For me, the rub lies in how such a coin gets marketed. If you tone up a coin and sell it, you should dilvulge that you did so, regardless of the method. If you mis-represent that the coin is NT when it is not, you are a crook, a slime, a miscreant - no two ways about it!
However, if you sell a nice AT toner to a fully-informed buyer who has his eyes wide open during the transaction and likes AT coins, so much the better - then it's simply a matter between buyer and seller.
For the record, Taco Bell is well above average fast food and I practically live on the stuff.
I wanna see someone duplicate this

Yes, but while beauty is in the "eye of the beholder", the matchbook ones I have seen, to me, have never looked good.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I agree. That toning is not one I would go after.

No only Taco Bell napkins, and sanitary napkins work.
