Which coin/photograph do you like better? And how much better? (Crusty Charlotte $5's inside)
Below are two different coins of the same date.
1. Which coin do you like better?
2. How much more would you pay for the nicer (ie. higher-graded) coin (as a %)?
3. Which coin do you think grades higher?
4. Which photograph do you like better?
5. (optional) Guess the grades of A. and B.
I will post the "answers" and background information for both coins later today, and some of the answers might surprise you.

I like the smooth look of B.
2. How much more would you pay for the nicer coin (as a %)?
Define nicer (I would expect to pay less for B, since it's a lower grade coin, but I prefer it to A).
3. Which coin do you think grades higher?
A.
4. Which photograph do you like better?
B, photo A is cropped too tight.
5. (optional) Guess the grades of A. and B.
I dunno.
2. Not too much, as they are probably quite close.
3. Probably coin B, since isn't quite as rough as A.
4. B
5. A: AU53, B: AU55

The second one.

A lot more - maybe double.

A is an AU55, B is a 50. But numerical grades tell a small part of the story IMO.

A.
B.
The grades look pretty similar, knowing how the grading services grade I will guess B is higher.....
Grade estimate would be XF area.....

2. I would pay up to a 20% premium for the nicer coin (not knowing the values of these). Anything more than that, the coin would have to be really nice (again, to hedge my bets, I really don't know a lot about C $5's).
3. I think Coin A grades higher, even though Coin A seems to have more chatter just looking at the pics. Coin B seems to be worn smoother in certain parts (I don't think it is strike). They are probably pretty close in grade, though.
4. I like the picture of Coin B better. It seems to have more life than Coin A.
5. Grade guesses: Coin A-- AU-53; Coin B-- AU-50.

2) they are nice nice nice... I'd pay a premium for either.
3) if B grades higher, then A is bodybagged for cleaning
4) I like picture A better
5) Re: Line #1
I'm curious how wrong I am.
Practice makes perfect & nobody is perfect. So, practice being nobody and be perfect !
2. $5
3. A
4. B, A looks a bit too harshly lit for a circ.
5. A:55, B:50
2. I do not follow the markets for these, but I would guess 10-20 percent?
3. I think coin A grades a little higher than B
4. Coin B has a more pleasing photograph
5. A = AU 55 and B= AU 50
I think.

Here's my take:
1. I like BOTH.
2. I purchased B at a local coin show this summer. A is currently on the market, and I paid about 20% less than the offering price of A.
3. I think that A grades AU-55+and B grades AU-50/53.
4. I like BOTH. B was taken by my favorite photographer, and A was taken by an up-and-coming photographer who has trained with the photographer of B.
5. Both coins are in NGC AU-55 holders.
Thanks for playing.

2. I have no idea the relative value.
3. B grades higher.
4. Both pictures look like they have been oversharpened when being reduced in size, but I prefer B.
5. They both look to be XF/AU coins.
2 - unknown
3 - A
4 - A
5 - unknown
A is more appealing to me because of it crispy strike.

Nice topic!
I don't collect C mint gold yet
Is A an above average strike for a 1852 C $5?
Prices don't jump up too much til MS63 so I could see A as possible upgrade but not B
nice coins, very informative topic, thanks!
