I support the idea, only if the composition is also changed to the original specs.

How about a completely new desing on both obverse and reverse. Instead of a dead president put lady liberty back on the cent.

If we keep the cent past the centennial it should be changed completely. My vote is for all of the coins to go through a complete overhaul to include returning to multiple hubbing so the design can be lifted more from the field. With the designs as flat as we have them now, it's impossible to make a truly attractive coin.

If you think about it, all of the nicest designs put on coins in this country have a deeper relief with a bowl-like field. Tht cannot be successfully achieved with the single squeeze die making technique.

And, from an artistic standpoint, the nicest designs we have on coins in this country...Texas commem, $20 Saint, Buffalo Nickel, $50 Pan-Pac, Standing Liberty Quarter, Walking Liberty half dollar.

No support here. The reverse completes the coin IMO. Lincoln on the front and his memorial on the reverse. As stated earlier, I would prefer a complete redesign with Liberty as the central figure.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

How about adopting the Confederate cent reverse. The finest wreath type design I have seen. And it would create some interesting symbolism when merged with the Lincoln obverse.

I think the mint should make 1,909 24 karat gold 2009-S VDB wheat reverse cents. Randomly put them in 2009 silver proof sets. And let the fun begin. The mint would have a 3 set order limit for that year.
That would get the whole population involved in coin collecting. image

No fire in the belly here. I’ve always viewed the wheat reverse on the Lincoln cent is more utilitarian than beautiful.

Nice ideas. perhapos we could go back to the flying eagle cent.
i also like the idea of the gold cents, except i want them for 2007, not 2009. It would be alot of fun. and make alot of people alot of money.

It will probably happen in 2009, but I think that the cent may very well be discontinued after 09.
