just picked this up from ebay and its my first shield nickel so i don`t have others in hand to compare it to. i also don1t have any prior experience with these so all opinions are welcome. my pics aren`t so good, i see at least 4 die cracks on the obverse so i assume that thius is common on these. i`ll see if i can get better pics. thanks

    Not a good picture for grading, and I am no expert on the series by far, but I hate to see you twisting in the wind. EF.

    thanks, i know the pics are bad, i was just looking for opinions if it looked original and not messed with. it still has a little luster and very light toning.

    Sorry, the pic is far worse for judging originality than it was for grade. hairlines appear to exist, but whether they are incidental or pernicious is impossible to say by your pics.

    I can't comment re the picture for reasons mentioned by others, but the nicest Shield Nickels you will find are the 1882 and 1883. If you look long enough, you can find these dates without die cracks (many Shield Nickels have heavy die cracks, even in super-grades). Also, these coins usually look dull, however, you can find some 1882s and 1883s with attractive luster if you are persistent.

    Other dates with attractive luster bring strong premiums for the grade.
