<< <i>What is the spot at 9:00 on the obverse? Another sign of originality? >>
If you're talking about that round clear one..... it's what I call water stained spots, from the rinse at the mint. Very common on Peace dollars. This is going by the image of course.
Edit to add, I hear they don't really dip off. Never tried though.

why has nobody taken to task the two esteemed(sic) board members involved in selling this blatantly AT piece of crap in the same fashion as others have been shellac-ed in recent months?? i can see no "full disclosure" anywhere, only a POC purported to be genuine when we all seem to know better(please, no pathetic "how do you know" rep[lies], it's fairly clear). what's wrong, has everyone become puss-ified because they're afraid of hurting Doug's and Dick's feelings??
c'mon board, your credibility is sinking in these matters when you try to pick and choose who you're "honest" with. this one wreaks with cronyism.........................

Maybe everyone is tired with conspiracies and dealer bashing? It may have been very easy for Dick to simply state that he doesn't agree with PCI's account that the color is genuine? That would certianly hurt the bottom line though. Dick is a consignment guy and very friendly as well. He gets what he gets and puts it up for sale. He ran it in a legitimate auction. I've seen numerous wild toned coins being offered by Heritate, Superior, ANR, Stacks, B&M, ect. The market will dictate what these coins will sell for. If two nutso guys want to get into a bidding war over an AT coin, then so be it. Should the auction houses also be required to state whether or not a coin is AT? Sure!!! However, I'd bet that most wild coins they think could be AT have no mention about it in the write-up. Why? because they can't even tell alot of the time and stating a coin is AT would surely hurt the overall performance of the coin at auction. Why would someone consign their coins to you if they think you'll write it up as "could be AT"?
In a nutshell, wild color + PCI + Peace Dollar = not worth my risk. I like the seller and the consignor, but I dramatically dislike the coin.
I like the seller and the consignor, but I dramatically dislike the coin.
i also like the seller and have no axe to grind with the consignor, whom i don't really know. i do, however, find it troubling that the board members refuse to indict either after all the posturing of the past months. what it tells me is that many of our members are hypocritical fools who pick and choose dependant on how they are directly affected. that is bad by any standard as is the silence in this matter.
as if anyone cares, and i doubt they really do, my list grows. geez, if i hang out here long enough nobody will talk to me and nobody will sell to me or buy from me. pity the fool, but what, oh what, will i do??!!?? most likely i'll survive and continue to call a spade a spade..........................

Dick's idea, which he ran by me and I approved. I hope this helps assuage concerns, as I love the hobby and its integrity, as much as I also enjoy the buying and selling aspect.

It's easy to make that statement when you've never tried to run a coin business and rely on it to feed your family.
Yes, what people say is a direct result of considering the consequences. If you do it any other way, you are a fool. Would you run up to the President and say "I'd like to kill you?" Even if you wanted to do this, you'd have to be dumber than a bag of hammers to actually do it. Before you would finish the sentence, you'd be visiting with St. Peter reminiscing about how dumb your last moment on earth was. Always consider the consequences.

Hey, where'd the images in that auction go? They were there a few minutes ago.
Russ, NCNE >>
I see my question went unanswered. Stman linked to a closed auction with a wild two sided toned Peace dollar graded by PCI and shortly thereafter, the images mysteriously vanished from the listing. I guess somebody didn't think the coin would stand up to scrutiny.
My comments were not derogatory against you or your opinions. Yes, alot of people got flamed for AT coins, including myself. I tried to swallow the pill in the most professional manner I could. Nothing positive ever came out of instigating a lynch mob except for giving some members a taste for blood. THAT is the decline of these boards. I for one find it refreshing that a mild mannered discussion could take place in light of the coin in question. I commend everyone who formulated opinions and presented them in respectable ways.
maybe someone can give me some pricing help, perhaps from the GreySheet. i'm wondering what self-respect and integrity are currently going for in a mid-grade!!!
<< <i>In a nutshell, wild color + ICG + Peace Dollar = not worth my risk. >>
What about wild color + NGC + Peace Dollar?
Russ, NCNE >>
Dang it, don't you get it yet? If PCGS or NGC says that a coin is market acceptable, IT IS - end of discussion. How are you going to argue? They are the professionals, and are always looking out for the integrity of the Hobby of Kings.

<<<why has nobody taken to task the two esteemed(sic) board members involved in selling this blatantly AT piece of crap...has everyone become puss-ified because they're afraid of hurting Doug's and Dick's feelings??>>>
I really give less than a dam about what a small time eBay dealer is selling in PCI, SEGS, ICG etc holders. A "monster" toned coin in a 3rd world holder pretty much speaks for itself.
<<<Maybe everyone is tired with conspiracies and dealer bashing? It may have been very easy for Dick to simply state that he doesn't agree with PCI's account that the color is genuine?>>> If I ever consigned a coin to Mr. Dick and he stated in the auction that it was AT, overgraded or disagreed with the service designations he'd never get any more consignments from me. Not that he ever had any consignments from me anyway. I did buy a Morg from him one time that, the picture looked lots prettier than the coin did. The coin owner of this thread states these pictures are accurate however. He's selling it for what it is, a toned Peace in a tpg holder that is known for slabbing questionable coins. Why do you think it's in an ICG holder rather than PCGS or NGC? It probably was in a PCGS or NGC body bag one time. I told Carl Woolforth last month when he had his AT SEGS dilemma that if he was going to question his own ethics & morals then simply don't sell 3rd world holders. Maybe Mr. Dick should run his auctions by us and let the board screen them. If we don't like the coin or the holder it's in we don't let him sell it on eBay. We would only let him sell PCGS & NGC slabs. And then only the ones we approve of. Poor ole Mr. Dick wouldn't be selling anything then would he?
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
A friend of mine is going to China. I'll have him pick up a bunch of fake Trade dollars while he's there so that I can sell them on ebay. I'm going to charge $300 each, which is OK since I didn't make them and I'm not going to guarantee authenticity. How many are you in for?
<< <i>Well, it is very pretty in hand and looks exactly like the pics. The colors are indeed wild and I have only seen one other close to these colors in another ICG slab. It has really wonderful eye appeal and is a fun coin! I agree that the AT v. NT argument is important, especially when it comes to big bucks but...shouldn't this be a little bit about fun too?
Oh yeah, cool Pedigree too.
