Brian, I'm pretty sure I know the name of the
"What's My Line" Currency Dealer, but I don't
know the other one on the show you mentioned....

So I won't name the Currency Dealer.....

Ok, Ill give a hint for the coin dealer, he is near my age of 43 and the show was a big hit on a major network in the early 80's

I knew some of the veteran dealers would know the 1st one..

So two of us know the currency dealer and one knows the coin dealer. I guess few people who watched game shows 40-odd years ago watched this other show (I never heard of) in the 1980s.

I'm fairly sure I know the name of the currency dealer but would only be guessing about the coin dealer (though I do have a guess.) Just what was the "Real People" show format?

It was a great show. I loved it. It was on when I was a YN back in rural Missouri. Coins were my passion and I always carried a Coins magazine or Coin World with me, even if going to a sporting event. It's a small world considering that 20 some years later, after the segment aired, I got to know the coin pro featured on the show.

I believe they had multiple hosts and the show featured everyday people who did unusal things, etc. . .

I seem to recall Fran Tarkenton being involved in the show. Possibly Leslie Uggums, as well.

Fran Tarkenton? I think you're referring to "That's Incredible." He co-starred in that with Cathy Lee Crosby and John Davidson. "Real People" starred Sarah Purcell and some guy I can't remember.

Another hint- The beginning of the currency dealers name has the same first letter as the coin dealers last name.

I figured this one would not be that hard, Ok Ill open it up to dealers if you know both names too..

Kitty Carlisle was also a panelist, a semi regular, on the show. Last I heard, she was still alive. Must be about 100 years old.

Actually just found her NYC address; so I guess she is still kicking.

I don't think I know the answer to the first question, but I believe I know the answer to the second question.

Brian---Great thread! I remember that "What's my line" show. Grover Criswell was introduced as the worlds richest man in Confederate money. His speciality as a currency dealer was Confederate notes and he had tons of them.

Criswell was also an author and wrote some reference books on Confederate and southern states bank notes.
