<< <i>My thought is that it seems inconsistent to bash the Mint for abysmal communication on one hand, and on the other hand accept that everything that supervisor told you is true.

kranky: Your right, and I knew that from previous experience--but SOOOO many aspects of how they've handled the 20th Anniversary Sets' promotion, communication, allocation and distribution are messed up, I feel like we're being yanked around. Why not communicate honestly? Why not provide people with accurate information?
It appears to me that the U.S. Mint has patent disregard for both us as their primary customers, and for "best practice" standards. They do what they want, and anger a lot of people needlessly.
Just spoke with another supervisor in Dallas who told me that there is no waiting list...."no, that's not true", she said.
She limited her comments to exactly what she was told to say by administrators. She went through and read to me over and over the information found online on my account. She told me that they couldn't provide any more information than that, and that there was no waiting list.....Yeh, right!
She said that I am due to receive the coins and that the information provided me wasn't correct.
Ironically, the supervisor I spoke with last night said that no one at the mint should have said that my order would be filled. In today's call, this supervisor told me that there was no waiting list, and that I should be patient and I would receive my coins.
How much do you want to bet that if I call again, I'll get another answer=== LOSERS!
Calling the Mint is a waste of time. EVERYONE has said this. They know nothing.
Your just banging your head against the wall.
As for changing peoples orders, I don't agree. The rules where set, everyone knew when they went on sale and the limit. Who's to say one order of 10 wasn't for 10 different people. So then all of sudden 5 people don't get there coins because people were late ordering their own ??

How do you define "ordering late"? I placed an order about one minute after the mint started taking orders. I received order number 231127xx. From what I can tell this was one of the first 500 orders. Unfortunately, somehow my order was put into a suspended status with instructions to contact customer service! I finally got thru to customer service (now about an hour and a half later) and they informed me this order didn't go thru, even though I received an order number from the mint! Now when I placed a supposedly good order via the customer service rep, I receive Order # 231243xx. Now 11,000+ orders are ahead of me and my current order doesn't move up in que, even though I was one of the first purchasers at this time. IS THIS ORDERING LATE OR IS THIS A MINT SCREWUP? Well, you know my answer! I wonder how many other purchasers had suspended ("LATE") orders during this time period?
Spoke with another mint rep today, who mentioned a waiting list, and that my order was not on the waiting list, that I would receive the coins.
Then I asked why the mint wouldn't provide any information more on the orders that have a delivery date of 10/6/06. He said that they were not permitted to say whether these coins were going to be delivered, or were part of the waiting list.
Talk about someone speaking out of both sides of his mouth!
It's totally unbelievable that the 250,000 silver sets haven't sold out since Aug 30th. I have no idea what games the Mint are playing but be prepared for any announcements once they do say they are sold out. There might be a lot more POed purchasers then.
I called the mint this morning and she told me I am on a waiting list. Anyone who ordered on the 31st is on a waiting list. I ordered 19 hours after they started selling way before any annoucement on the website that they are sold out. They were sold out the first day not 24 hours. I have given up on this set and won't pay ebay prices for this set now. Not that I really collect the AGE's. My focus is now on the ASE Anniversary set.
Bear hits it right on the nose on this one. Call enough times and you'll hear an entire spectrum of responses.
I actually had a mint rep today admit a number of things to me....She read to me the script that they are supposed to communicate when people express frustration over their orders getting filled...instructing the agents to maintain that order is in process, and not provide any further detail than what appears on the screen.
She confirmed that even though the 10,000 orders had been obtained within the first hour, the mint continued to confirmIN EXCESS of another 10,000 orders, acknowledging that they took in at least another 10,000.before they posted that the set had sold out.
She claimed that the supervisors at one point were able to pass through people who were insistant directly to Washington to pursue their issue further; however supervisors were instructed this week not to continue this practice.
She said there were a significant amount of sets that kicked back due to credit limits and daily maximums on the credit cards; however wasn't willing to approximate a percentage.
She also stated that the mint was in deed delivering out most of the remaining sets this upcoming Friday, which we already know, as anyone who will be receiving any has already had their credit card charged.
Finally, she said that once filled, all remaining orders will be cancelled.
<< <i>not sure where I can find the time on my order but it was a few hours before anything was changed on the website.
my status still says....2 units backordered. Expected to ship on 10/06/2006. >>
I have the same "expected ship date" also. I ordered by credit card, and the billing for the set was not on my last statement. Could that be a bad sign?
I've been ordering coins from the mint for years. The worst experience I ever had was for the 1984 Olympic set when they lost my order. I had paid by check, and I had the canceled check in hand. I finally got my set, but it took a lot of phone calls and a couple of letters.

I will guarantee that there will be dealers at the Baltimore show with large stocks of these coins obtained directly from the mint. It’s the usual case of the mint taking care of dealers before the collectors.
This sort of thing takes the fun out of collecting modern coins. The only modern coins the average collector can buy from the mint are the crappy ones that ultimately sell for less than their issue price. It’s one more reason to hate modern coins.
Why does the mint allow people to order 10 sets? It should ONE set per household.

I am DONE with the Mint! I will NEVER buy from them again. At the moment I have sold some of my sets of Mint Proof (1), Silver Proof (3), and Quarter Sets (2). I only have one Silver Proof Sets left. Next I am going to sell my 1986-2006 Silver Proof Eagles Set, 2001 Silver Proof Buffaloes and Unc (10)along with other items that I have. The Mint absolutely knew what they were doing.

My backorders all say expected to ship 10/06/06.... I would not view that as a positive sign. I had my first order delayed by a credit card glitch, but it shipped now.

You bought ten sets. A collector buys one maybe two. Are you going to keep all 30 coins you are sending to PCGS? No. You are going sell the vast majority of them or perhaps all of them and make a killing. The way you collect has very little to do with what you goals are.
You got lucky and won the lottery while a lot of other people got shutout after the mint had told them they had valid orders. Now you come on here and tell people, “I got mine! Ha-ha ha!”
How do you expect people to react to that?
A classy guy would count himself lucky say nothing on these boards and not make other people feel worse. You sir, have shown your level of class here.

You can't just be happy with winning. You have to rub it in too. Like the bumper sticker says, "Mean people suck."
And yes, not being able to access the Mint Site when they dropped the gates had something to do with when orders were placed also. I had to try several times just to get the mint site to come up. And when I finaly did get in, it was too late.

It appears I also missed the boat by ordering a couple hours after they went on sale. I wanted one set because I collect coins. I guess the next step for all of us who missed the boat is to start an email campaign asking the mint to mint the reverse proof as a single coin for 2006. That way we can still get all three. Who knows, maybe they will be cheaper buying them individually. If they get enough emails or phone calls, they may mint them.
Part of the attraction for me was the wooden box and the fact that it was a set of coins. I was disappointed when the mint stopped issuing sets starting with the Wright Brothers in 2003.
And yes, I only wanted ONE set. The mint needs to reduce the number of coins to one or two sets per order, or reduce the orders of those who ordered two or more. The current distribution system is very unfair.

But don't come to me w/ your crocodile tears, becasue you are a coin dealer and you should know better. Supply & demand, I can't believe you of all people should know that.
So I called the Mint to verify my order and credit card info.
The initial person I spoke to said I'd get my set if I ordered it on the 30th. However, my call was passed over to a senior rep who told me she couldn't tell me if I was gonna get my set or not. She also said the Oct. 6 ship date is approximate only, not a tight shipping date. Lastly the rep suggested I call back in two weeks to get an update, and she seemed very evasive about giving information and wanted to end the call in a hurry.
Whoa, I just rechecked my order status. It now says "In stock and reserved". However the cancel option is still available. Usually it goes away when the "In stock and reserved" label appears. So we'll see...
I worder if the order numbers really mean anything? They could just be assigned numbers that have nothing to do with the order of acceptance.
