Has anyone been accused of not shipping an item on ebay?

Got an email tonight from someone who bought a few walking liberty half dollars from us on ebay 3 weeks ago. He asked when is he going to get them. We sent those coins priority mail with delivery confirmation which upon checking just now, usps shows the package delivered . Obviously with this initial communication from this buyer I'm already expecting something not so positive about to happen.

We are scanning the receipts and delivery confirmations from the post office and emailing them to the seller. The items were insured from the post office and what I think I should do is confirm this with the post office somehow, refund the buyers money and file a claim with the usps.

What have you all done with these kinds of things and what do you reckon is going on? This would be the first package I EVER lost sending thru the post office. In decades of shipping.

I have had a email like that and when I emailed him back telling him that they had been delivered and with the information they said they had clicked on the wrong link in their ebay and sent a email to the wrong person. I am not sure if thats exactly what happened or not but never heard anything else about it and I also got positive feedback from him so I considered the problem solved

Good point on the insurance claim. So what do you do?

Yesterday a buyer said he only got one of two coins. I politely asked him to look again and guess what.....

About three years ago a buyer said the bubble wrap holder arrived with no coin in it. When the truth came out one of his employees played a trick on him and removed the coin from the holder and resealed it. The buyer apologized to me three or four times.

The buyers "about me" looks pretty neat. They sell tomato plants/seeds?

Just the first time this has happened so......am probably using too strong a wording "accused". He's really just sent an email inquiry which I would have done a couple of weeks ago if I were the buyer as it was sold with priority mail.

I would first e-mail back that it was signed for, and the date, and offer to send the PO documents. The PO will not pay in my opinion if it is confirmed as delived.

this has happened to me twice selling on ebay.
gut feelings go a long way in my book. both of mine i feel were scammers, but both
of them, when presented with delievery confirmation numbers relented.
Ironically, both did what bryan1315 mentioned, they said they had mistaken it for another shipment etc.. yeah...

Unless the delivery was of the signed return variety, the delivery confirmation only assures that the package was delivered somewhere. This doe not necessarily mean that the buyer received it.

If it was insured by USPS, he'd have to sign for the delivery.

As a buyer I had a package show as delivered by tracking, so I assumed one of my kids had moved it somewhere. It got delivered by the mailman about 3 weeks later--all beat up on the outside and no explanation.

If the insured value is less than $50, no signature is required.

Delivery confirmation means nothing other than it was delivered, to who and where is unknown.

Yes, often. Most often they are scammers. Delivery confirmation is evidence of delivery. Let the claimant prove otherwise. I usually answer them by providing the info available at USPS.com and asking them to check with family, neighbors, their letter carrier and then the USPS station manager. I've had a false insurance claim from a 'circle of trust' member of this forum that never replied when confronted.

I just received this FB on Yahoo:
    1892-O MORGAN SILVER DOLLAR! VERY FINE! (Sep 14 19:48 2006 PDT) $16.00
    Buyer gives Neutral Seller rating.
Comment:HAVE NOT RECIEVED MY COIN (Sep 22 08:13 2006 PDT) (most recent)

    My reply:
Response:Sale ended 9/14. Rec'd your PERSONAL CHECK on 9/19. You leave FB on 9/22 about not getting the coin? Very impatient! image (Sep 22 11:35 2006 PDT)

I believe only signature confirmation, not delivery confirmation, proves the buyer received it.

It happened to me once. The buyer was adamant that they did not receive the coin. After I sent them the delivery confirmation information theymiraculously found it. image

I just received an email from the buyer stating that the item was never "processed" and he apologized for the experience.

Alls well that ends well .

Good idea to always have at least a delivery confirmation when shipping.

And again, I've been shipping coins for many years and have never lost one.

Tom, I've had one bad experience.
I sold three US MINT medals and one token. All started at a penny and had low shipping.
The guy that won was from spain. He asked if I could discount the shipping on four items and ship them together. I replied that I would send them all together, but that he won the items for a penny and twelve cents, respectively. The total was under fifteen bucks. I sent the items out. About three months later or so, I get an email asking where these items are. I responded by sending him the address he told me to send them to. He said it was correct. A few weeks after that, I received the package back from Spain. ( No such address)
I contacted the buyer who said I sent it to the wrong place. I refunded his money (actually a couple dollars over because of his incoveniences). Then I sent the package back out to the CORRECT address he conveniently came up with. He received them the second time. He refused to re imburse me my money and kept the items. When I asked about reimbursement , I got the following feedback plus a few choice expletives telling me what a stupid #*%$& american crook I am :

HE SENT NOTHING & STOLE MY MONEY

A couple of times. Once a guy said he never recieved it and that there was no delivery confirmation when he was looking on eBay. After I suggested he look on the USPS website (which stated where and when delivered) He emailed back saying " oops! My bad ,it was right here on my desk"

The other time I sent a router (woodworking) to California when there was a big forest fire going on. It took Forever for it to get delivered. The buyer didn't want to hear my explanation and started procedure thru Ebay for non-delivery. Ebay and Paypal actually listened to my side and told the guy to wait a week before they'd take action.

This happened to me so I went down to the post office. They ran the number an said it has been sitting at the buyers post office for a week and a half waiting for signiture and pick up

I'm just paranoid enough to pay the $1.35 for signature confirmation. On the occasions I don't, I find myself worrying.
Hope this shakes out well for you. What a bummer.

    That's a good investment.

So far got a reply that said "sorry for the troubles, it wasn't processed before".

If it is insured for under $50 no signature is required. Over $50 is always supposed to be signed for. Having said that I just brought in from my mailbox a package insured for $178 that has been sitting out in the mail box for two days while I have been out of town at a coin show that no one ever signed for. So insured for $178, no signature, no delivery confirmation, no way to show that it was ever delivered anywhere.

Did you run it for delivery confimation? All that says is that some shmuck working for the post office scans a barcode that says it was delivered, regardless of whether it was or not.

The post office tracks insured shipments internally, I would check with them to get a copy of the signature, then tell the buyer you have a signature for the item and the date it was recieved.

This happenened to me once, the buyer swore for a month he had never recieved it, and as soon as I scanned a copy of the signature and emailed it to him, the story suddenly changed that he "lost" it...

I bought a coin on Ebay that never arrived and she claimed she had mailed it. We went through Square Trade on Ebay and she FINALLY provided the receipt where she mailed it, so I assumed it was lost in the mail and forgot about. FOURTEEN months later I received the coin, and emailed her to let it know. It was indeed postmarked on the date she said she mailed it. I have no idea where it was all that time.

That as happened to me a few times. The last time the buyer waited a month to contact me. Never heard from her again when I sent the information from delivery confirmation that said it was delivered. I think she was hoping I threw away the confirmation number, and couldn't proove she received it. I have every post office receipt I have ever received. Most buyers are great, but you always get a few.

Since I have no first hand experience I am not sure what it takes to collect if a package is lost.

Perhaps some of you that have experienced a lost shipment can give some tips on what you should do either in shipment or documentation so if a package is lost, the insurance claim will be processed with the leats amount of grief.
