Why the Proof reverse design on the BU-W Platinum Eagles?

I mentioned this in another thread that promptly died, but does anybody find it odd that the Mint is using the Proof Platinum Eagle reverse design on the BU with W mint mark platinum eagles they are going to sell directly to collectors, rather than the regular BU design?

Maybe so, but it works.
Some of the most beautiful designs we've had on coins for years and years.
