Since when did you assume the role of deciding what is or is not appropriate over here? If you don't like the Word of the Day, then don't open it.
Gator....I am NOT trying to be the one to determine ANYTHING..just trying to keep it a Coin Forum, nothing less, no agenda. I LIKE the coin forum here...I learn from it every day...I dont want to lose that, nor do I think anyone else does.
Also, Gator, if everyone that has insulted me in this thread just said what you said, this thread would be long buried by now.
I DO think a numismatic word of the day is GREAT...I didnt see it as one, and nothing against laserart, but thats how all his OF word of the days were posted. I think his word of the days over there were great, and the replies were great also. I just dont know why when someone says something that the masses dont agree on, the masses gather the hounds and rope.....

Put your plastic Lone Ranger badge and your Little Orphan Annie decoder ring away. It's past your bedtime little boy.
Your insults are a feeble attempt to piss me off ss350yugo. Trust me, first off, I am NOT, repeat NOT trying to be a forum police here.....what part of my original post led you to believe that. Secondly, I am by NO means a little boy...I dont call people jagoff's, tell them to STFU (like you have to me)...sounds to me like the stereotypical geek that acts tough in front of his keyboard and monitor. I wouldnt have thought that was you before this, but maybe now....why would you attack me for wanting to keep something that helps all collectors equally, in tact? Look what they did to the OF....I know I dont want to lose this forum, as its too valuable in knowledge from others. If you think I am a jerk for that, then so be it, but I know there would be alot of people bummed out if something were to happen to this forum.
Would YOU like to see something happen to this forum? I know I dont. Judging by your number of posts, I am guessing you have learned a thing or two at LEAST...I for one, dont want to see it get hammered in ANY way due to things being off topic, as we were warned.
now, let me ask you this ddbird...
Is it WRONG to NOT want to lose something that benefits you?
edited to add...I have covered this with laserart in a PM...if his intent was to MAKE it a coin realated word of the day, GREAT, its a GREAT idea...I didnt see it as that when I opened the thread. I have also asked him if there have been MORE word of the days in the CF. If this was his intent all along, I was wrong...but, no offense laserart, his first reply in no way said anything about it being a coin word of the day, ie being topical...look it up. Are some of you that full of yourselves that you dont care that someone cares about this forum? I learn alot and HAVE learned alot-I wouldnt have been able to pick it up anywhere else....but those of you that are full of yourselves, I guess you could care less if this forum suddenly had restrictions or was canned all together....
The coin forum will hardly be lost. Its just us OF trying to assimilate back to the CF...which is where we all started anyway.
If a thread is terribly off topic, it will be pulled, and the author will most likely be banned...its already happened a few times.
Give it a few weeks for everyone to adjust...you will see less and less Off topic threads.
Then again, there were just as many off topic threads before. Just fewer people noticed becuase they were shipped of to the OF. Now that the "garbage" can was destroyed, expect to see more off topic threads...

Look, your attempts at obvious censure are not appreciated. Try gaining some experience and respect here before you attack any long term member about something you obviously have no clue about.
Or, and this might be easier for you, just don't open threads you don't like.
Looks to me like i'm not the only one here who doesn't appreciate your comments and attempts to cause someone else to not bring topics to this forum.

I highly doubt CU would pull the coin forums, that's just not going to happen.
The only reason I see that this thread keeps making it to the top is that you insist on making it some sort of personal campaign to monitor what is and is not relevent to the topic of U.S. Coins. Not one of your posts here in this thread has in any way, shape or form contributed to the knowledge and enjoyment of the hobby. So if anyone is Ot I would have to say it is you .
Personally I learned something from it. I never knew the term "Moose" was related to numismatics and am happy that Laserart has kept his posts going.
ddbird...ever hear of the saying 'and a child shall lead them'? I am not insinuating you are a child, not at all, just using it as a rough comparison to a YN...you have made very succinct points, and I dare say you somewhat understand why I did what I did? Your last post was a thing of beauty, and you are right.....
Desertrat....I am NOT trying to bring it to the top. Also, you said this:
Not one of your posts here in this thread has in any way, shape or form contributed to the knowledge and enjoyment of the hobby. So if anyone is Ot I would have to say it is you .
Are you telling me that my posts are the ONLY ones that havent contributed? Hell, I am only trying to help keep what we have here, and not trying to be a policeman. ss350camaro used a GREAT word...CENSURE....its THEIR forum, they can do with it as they wish.....most of the posts that have brought this to the top have been personal affronts to ME....
<< <i> Hell, I am only trying to help keep what we have here, and not trying to be a policeman. >>
This was the second post you made to this thread:
<< <i> What I am suggesting is that 'Word of the Day' was fine for the OF, but it is NOT appropriate for the CF, THAT is what I am suggesting. Also, if you have been here for 5 years, then you should know that 'Word of the Day' is NOT appropriate for the CF. The OF post padders are at it already. >>
Your use of all caps as emphasis in telling Laserart that his post is not appropriate in the CF suggests something entirely contradictory to your notion that you are not trying to be the forum policeman. It is apparent that you immediately came to the conclusion that his post was inappropriate before you thought to look up the term and see if it was indeed a relevent term in the field of numismatics. You then immediately jumped up like the schoolyard tattletale waving your arms as if to say "look what Laserart is doing!! He's off topic!!"
I think you'll find that Laserart keeps his topics here relative to numismatics and you need not stress out over the forum being pulled simply because he posts a "Word of the Day" thread.
He didn't survive 5-years here and in the OF by posting things that will result in the entire forum being deleted.
I would also distinguish "moose" from "monster." "Monster" is an appropriate term for a surprisingly rainbow toned Morgan. "Moose" would likely not be applied to such a coin (although there may be exceptions). "Moose" would more likely be applied to a very high grade DMPL with little or no toning.
Just a little something I picked up from a thread here from a few months ago.

It is my intention to post a Word for the Day each day, so long as I remember to do it. They will be coin related words and I would suggest if in doubt to look them up. That is what it is all about anyway, looking up a term or phrase someone is not familiar with. It would benefit the naysayers to wait before putting their feet in their mouths and see how one word in a thread will develop.

Wheres Petarded? Petarded has a LIFE and is not on this forum all nite posting. When I DO (or, when anyone that rubs you the wrong way), all you elitists automatically have a massive circle jerk. I piped up as laserart gave the 'Word of the Day' on the OF, and I DIDNT want to see OF topics being brought up on the CF (does anyone remember the 'NASCAR' thread that was in the CF? THAT was punted into hyperspace). YOU ELITISTS have been the ones that have carried on with this thread...notice I havent posted in over 2 hours? I believe I cleared this up about 2 hours ago with a private PM to laserart, so stop all the finger pointing, tongue wagging, and get on with your lives people. And as far as YOU go ss350camaro, or pinto, or yugo, or whatever you wannabe for a car, YOU STFU...
So let me get this straight, moose is unacceptable but circle jerk is cool?
Petarded, I keep getting the impression from your posts that you may have seen fit to make complaints about the Open Forum before it's demise. You had your hat handed to you a few times there. Did you complain about it to the mods?
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
Pharmer, if you dont wish to, then all I can say is this....at least ss350camaro, and Laserart had the decency to see what I had to say. And if you really want to get a gist of it, read my post to Laserarts WFTD from today-it probably sunk to page 3 by now (not to mention someone else attacked him, somewhat like I did in my first post to THIS thread, though NOONE has jumped on HIM for slamming Laserart, though you may see that I DID). Then, you may just want to read what I have said to you in the PM.
Pharmer, if you have read my post to todays WFTD, and my PM's to you, you will KNOW I have no intention of doing that again.... not to mention that was never my original intent.
<< <i>OK laserart...how's this...(and YES, I DID edit this PM)...

If it is in the COIN forum why would you need "coin" word of the day (any coin forum person already knows that). If it is a word of the day that is not numismatically related than it should read OT word of the day.
