I tried toothpaste and lipstick on silver, when I was a kid. I never heard of olive oil til I got here last year, but wd-40 makes questionable color even if it dissolves gunk on pennies

I haven't cracked any out, but have had PCGS crack a few for me.
The 7070 will not get any pcgs crackouts... so in the future, if I do... they'll likely be NGC, PCI, and ANACS holders that get the hammer !

I've only cracked open "Government Issued Slabs" because up till recently their the only ones I owned.

I tried acetone per suggestions on a proof Ike that I cracked out of the gevernment slab; however it didn't seem to do anything?

I don't even know what stuff people use when the refer to "dipping".

So what the hell is so bad about cracking out a coin from its slab? Is that some sancrosanct domain not to be messed with by mortal men once the coin God's have assigned a grade? I am proud to say that I have cracked out dozens and dozens of coins from their unholy tombs.

I prefer non-dipped coins, so I don't do the dipping, but I am not averse to some who do it, who are very practiced, who do it to improve the eye appeal of a darkly toned coin....unless dark coins where the details are barely visible is attractive to you all?

My problem with cracking coins is that I somehow see some sort of value in the holder and even though eventually the coins are going into an album I still find it hard to crack them out. Never dipped any coins.

I've dipped silver coins in acetone to remove PVC damage and just overall crud, and I've cracked out lower MS graded MOrgans from third-world TPG slabs...nothing major.

Guilty on both counts. But...But...I've rarely cracked a slab to resubmit. I have cracked quite a few of them to add to several Dansco's I'm working on.

I have never dipped or otherwise cleaned a coin (childhood experiments with erasers and washing machines don't count.

).

I have cracked a few dozen coins, but not a single one has been submitted for a regrade -- almost all were destined for Dansco albums.

I've only dipped (circulating) coins to see what happens, not to get any financial gain.

I've certainly cracked coins out of slabs, but that's a good thing.
