<< <i><< << but, if dealers hadn't helped turn this into such a popular hobby, would there be enough interest to maintain a market on ebay? >>
Does there really need to be a "market" in coins? When the hobby becomes an industry, corruption is bound to follow. Again, dealers can be an asset, but I often wonder if dealers are really the ones driving the market. >>
maybe not today, but there is 200 years of history that dealers have been involved in buying & selling coins, & thanks to them, we have a hobby today. had dealers never existed, i imagine coin collecting would be pretty obscure >>
I agree. Coin collecting would likely be very obscure. Much like collecting Pez dispensors.

Yeah man, Buy PEZ.....
"Coin Dealer"... it's such a vague term.... Soo many different kind's of Coin Dealer's it make's my head swim.....
Vest Pocket coin show "Mall" dealer's.... Flea market dealer's, Ebay coin delar's, sit in the basement and sell coins of a web site dealer's, Commercvial coin show dealer's, Brick & Morter full time dealer's, (me)..... Wannabee's... heheheheeee.... Whosaler's that do not deal with the public-dealer's, High end-Big money , few coin's dealer's, Telemarket dealer's, Big time Auction house's, and then there are those elite, like Julian L, and Dave Bower's, etc.....
No way you can group us all together.....
I feel responcible for turning newbie's and first timer's in to real numismatist's and thet when the find higher end dealer's, when I can no longer feed their need.......
in the mean time say and think what you will, I have spent 24+ years in my little Brick & Morter heaven, and I would'nt trade a day of my life with anyone.....
Have a nice one.....

Coin collecting is obscure enough already!
At least, among my peer group.

I agree...coin collecting is obscure in the 18 to 25 age demographic. It seems like most collectors on this forum had an interest when they were young and put the hobby down for as much as 20 years before picking it back up again. That type of hiatus from a hobby doesn't typically bode well for the hobby.
