It's amazing, out of the whole lot, I got only a few dollars worth of cards - some All-Star cards and a few second-tier stars. Figures.

My pack sucked. I have yet to pull a decent card!

Guidry and Concepcion AS are litterally the only cards worth mentioning.

I feel a Henderson RC in my future.

Heeeey, it's nice to see someone pull such a nice card as that CRipken RC. I had hoped to see one in my distrubtion, but didn't. I really enjoyed the cards of the players I got -- especially the very first card, Rod Carew IA, #501. That's one of my all-time favorites (non-Twin!) of him. The second card was Joe Niekro, #611. Jeez, busted on TV when he threw a file out of his back pocket to the ground -- as a Twin by the way.

    The rest:
    442 Bruce Kison (Angels)
    257 Larry Harlow (Angels)
    532 Toby Harrah (Indians)
    730 Gary Carter (Expos)
    39 Lou Whitaker (Tigers)
    349 George Frazier (Yankees)
53 sticker - Burton Hooton (Dodgers)
    455 Tom Burgmeier (Red Sox)
    696 Pirates Leaders - Madlock/Solomon
    279 Bill Russell (Dodgers)
    6 1981 Highlights - Fernando Valenzuela
    346 Tom Seaver N.L. All-Star
    497 Jim Anderson (Mariners)
    311 Dodgers Leaders - Baker/Hooton

    Scans tomorrow...

    Dale Murphy
Kirk Gibson (one of my favorite players)
    Dave Parker All Star
    Goose Gossage

Oh well, another pack without a major rookie card....but what the heck, I am getting the Henderson!
By the way, nice Ripken pull Shannon

    Looking for alot of crap.

Only card I have had in the whole thing over a dollar was the 1987 Bonds rookie. Not even a real star in any of the other packs.

I really enjoyed my 1982 pack. No Ripken, but I got another decent shortstop. I really like this design, and I love the special cards, including the All-Stars, highlights and In-Action cards. (Some of the cards in this pack were slightly bowed, which makes the scans look a bit goofy.)

    image

    1. Not a real good hair day for the Hawk
    2. Off-cut, but maybe Mike could use a nail file to shave down the right edge. I didn't know he was a Met to start his career. His 1986 season was simply amazing.
    3. Another Hawk. I *loved* collecting stickers in this era. Maybe even more than cards. The first complete box I got was a box of stickers - my grandma bought it for me when I was in Florida. I couldn't believe that she bought the WHOLE box. That was unheard of!
    4. Did you know that Porter was MVP of the 1982 World Series?
    5. Fernandomania!
    6. I love cards from Ozzie's days on the Padres. He looks so out of place.

Wow, this '82 pack could've quite possibly have been the worst in my whole batch so far.

    Gary Lavelle - Giants (Wax)
    Silvio Martinez - Cardinals
    Dennis Lamp - White Sox
Bucky Dent - Yankees All Star
    Mike Proly - Phillies
    Tony Pena - Pirates
    UL Washington - Royals
    Ron Hodges - Mets
    Graig Nettles sticker
    Reggie Smith - Dodgers
    Larry Herndon - Giants
    Ed Lynch - Mets
    Steve Braun - Cardinals
    Willie Upshaw - Blue Jays
    Dave Roberts - Astros
    Dickie Thon - Astros

.......not much at all. I'll throw some scans up of a couple interesting cards later.

I don't know...I'd consider that a pretty good pack. Two HOFers (Yount, Reggie), one that should be (Raines) and one that was a frequent All-Star (Garvey). I know we're all looking for the Ripken rookie, but maybe our sights are set a little too high.

My pack got even better. I saw that lots of guys had stickers in their scans, but I had no sticker. I went through the cards again. My sticker was one of my all-time favorites - Rickey Henderson. I'll post a pick when I get home. It is OC, but it still be Rickey.

fsjeter, If the #139 Jeff Jones card is solid and should grade PSA 9/10 I would buy that card from you for
my Registry set. I would buy any of the 12 or so cards I still need to finish if in mint condition (excluding the Seaver AS which I have and needs a corrected flip).

Arny Vee, the Reggie Smith card is one tough card to find in high grade,if yours is a lock for a 9 I would be interested for my raw set. I was able to buy the only PSA 10 from another 82 Registry collector luckily but the best I ever found myself from cases was one example that graded 8.

Nope. It's nicely centered on the front (a little off top to bottom but within limits) but the print defects along the top border and slight corner/surface ware would keep it from being a 9/10. I'd give it a 7 with an outside shot at an 8. Sorry!

I was pretty happy with my pack. As a kid in Wisconsin, a pack with Yount and Cooper would have been just about perfect!

I hope some more people start posting their scans. I really thought we'd see 36 packs each week, but we're down to a dozen or fewer, now.

1981...the year I was married and the year I started collecting again after 13 years of single-living and partying.

That's a nice lookin' Yount! The cards in my '81 pack were either badly OC or nicely centered. Here's my pack:

55 Mike Norris (A's P; wax on front -- easily wiped off!)
    535 Omar Moreno (Pirates OF)
    392 Lance Parrish (Tigers C)
153 Tom Poquette (Red Sox OF)
    71 Hal Dues (Expos P)
    300 Paul Molitor (Brewers 2B-SS)
    425 Al Bumbry (Orioles OF)
142 Jackson Todd (Blue Jays P)
    679 LA Dodgers Team
    85 Mike Caldwell (Brewers P)
    582 Gaylord Perry (Yankees P)
    225 Ruppert Jones (Yankees OF)
    362 Bo Diaz (Indians C)
    113 Mike Phillips (Cardinals 3B-2B)
    667 KC Royals team

And some highlights to scan and enjoy:

I got another good pack this week. The Pete Rose I pulled back in '81, I traded to my neighbor along with all of my other Phillies for all of his Pirates. Good trade. I think the Don Robinson below is the first Pirate card I've pulled from all of these packs.
1981 was also this first year I bought a whole set at once. Well, my mom actually sprung the $13 for the set at a flea market in Adamstown, PA. It was professionally packaged in a wax box.

When the wax is on the glossy card front, I just use an old tube sock. I rub it back and forth a few times over the wax spots, taking care not to snag a corner or the edge. The friction warms the wax, making it easily removed.

Try it on a "worthless" card for practice...

Hey guys this looks like it's been a fun rip. Not to bust into the thread but I wanted to see if any would be interested in doing another 80s wax rip with all three topps donruss and fleer. Cost would be roughly 60 for 28 packs . Talked with steve at bbcx and we could get all 28 boxes. If there's any interest pm me and I'll start a new thread. image
