Crack it out and resubmit. THAT would be the true test of perfection!

Then again, just wait five years when the copper plating starts to blister. PCGS will have to buy it back for whatever crazy price the coin is said to be worth.

  • I'm sure many of the ms69's are just as "perfect".

It will be interesting to see what kind of price it brings if the owner sells it.

<< <i>According to Jaime Hernandez, Price Guide Editor at PCGS, "This coin is the Holy Grail of Lincoln Cents and something for which we have been searching for two decades. If this coin comes on the market, the competition for it will be fierce. Every advanced Cent or type collector will want to own this coin." >>

Maybe they'd all want to own it, but would they all be willing to pay 20x the price of a 69 when you need an electron microscope to tell the difference? "Buy the number, not the coin."

????? where did he find this penny? bank roll?
well if "70" is 100% perfect , no scratch at all. the only way that he can find the penny like this is direct for usmint , after it strike. otherwise, person who grade that penny is blind. or misprint.

If the owner has any 'nads at all, he'll crack it out and sell it as is or resubmit to really make sure it's a 70 (....or NOT). That piece of plastic just made the owner a lot more wealthy....the plastic mind you...NOT the coin.
  • Man you US coin forum people are so behind...image Or us Registry forum people are so bored? image

In any event there is a thread in the registry forum that details some of the specifics and has a comment from the owner of that coin.

    Here is a link!!

I think some of the people over there nailed it: By certifying one 70, PCGS opened the floodgate$ to new revenue$ from people resubmitting their 69s. The problem is, the difference between 69 and 68 is so small that even the most infinitesimal mishandling could knock them down to 68.

I think making a 70 is basically winning the lottery in this case. I wouldn't be surprised if some 69s are every bit as nice and possibly a few nicer.
  • Its the label thats worth the money not the coin. I bet its the same as hundreds of 69's out there.image
