A1818 bust half that has been screwed with

I cannot take pictures worth a damn. The dark area around the outside edge is kinda robin egg blue.

I agree.
Maybe if this one could be dipped gently and put away in an album or envelope to re-tone, it may come around better next time around.
My thoughts exactly....in fact I just finished the dip process, only insted of album/envelope,
I am going to carry it in pocket change with $3.00 of crusty walkers, std lib qrts, and mercury dimes for the next couple of years.
then into a envelope. Let the next generation sort it out. The only way I could think of "conserving" this one.
In fact they are in my pocket now.
The coin will never be better than a 45, but as it is now, it is a 45 that I wouldn't want in my collection. Now if it had that mistake removed and it had a chance to become a decent re-toned 45, it would probably find a place in a nice circulated set.
