Coin World Coin Holders - Does anyone use them and what do you think?

I received a package yesterday from Coin World (or Amos Press) and in it was a PCGS-looking slab (Premier) with a 2006-D Jefferson Nickel in it and also some sales brochures about the slab and some prices. I have to say that the slab is nice and so is the coin. Has anyone else on the forum received such package? Has anyone actually use these slabs? What is there to like or dislike about them? What else can anyone say about them?

I heard about that. But for the few morons that try to deceive people, there must be a lot of collectors who actually like these holders. Though I am not a big fan of TPG and slabs, at least they make a coin a little more presentable.
<< <i>I tied to use them. It is extremely dificult to get the coins into the insert. I would not even attempt to put a proof coin in one. >>
Really? Amos Advantage had a 30 second video on how to get the coin into the insert. Looks easy - but.....
It sounds like those black inserts could prove tricky when inserting the coins. I wonder what other type of holders are out there which are more durable like these, and also provide a place for a label. What I don't like about holders such as airtites is that there is no place for a label without covering up part of the coin.
<< <i>I also posted this topic over on the Darkside

The white inserts are softer? Didn't know that!

Yes, I agree. It's the type of stuff flea market and low life dealers use to fool the inexperienced.

OK, but what about legit dealers like myself ?
NOTE: Three cent silvers are a real bear to put in these holders.
However, I do not approve of people trying to pass them off as certified slabs. The coinworld globe on each one identifies them anyway.
<< <i>I have used quite a few of them. Both the small ones and the large ones. My collections of 3 cent pieces and shield nickels have several of them. They go well with the certified holders in the Eagle Certified coin pages and binders.

Which is better - ANACS-size or PCGS-size?
<< <i>Either one is OK. I had a lot of small size ANACS slabs and went with the smaller ones to keep the size uniform. The larger (premier) ones are the same size as PCGS slabs. I like the larger ones a little better. If you have PCGS slabs then I would go with the large ones. They do make a nice presentation when mixed with TPG slabs. >>
I am not a big fan of slabs primarily due to the cost the TPG services charge and that when I see a coin in such slabs that the dealer inflates the price. I have nothing against TPG's because they have experts who can detect counterfeit and altered coins and other services that most dealers would have either limited or no knowledge of.

So what? Don't let the prevailing paranoia consume you. Just because there might be a nefarious use for an item doesn't disqualify it for legitimate uses.
Doe these fit in a PCGS box? If so, I might put some of my bodybagged coins in them.

I don't think so. I believe that they are too narrow. I think they are more like the old ANACS slabs.

I'm sure it is an ancient observation how wonderful it would be if the TPGs could agree on slab edge dimensions...many other industries standardize designs to allow interchange. Oh well. --Jerry
<< <i>The inserts that came with mine are dark green. I go them from the Amos coins suply website. The inserts fit into both the old ANACS style holder and the PCGS style holder. >>
Dark Green? I thought it was either black or white.
<< <i>I like the PCGS style holders, but I prefer to use the Premire(yes, that is the correct spelling) brand, which is an exact clone of the Coin World holder without the globe icon and "Coin World" embossed on the surface. >>
Where can I get them?
The holders are actually manufactured by Guardhouse, and marketed as Premier holders. They appear to be manufactured in China, which may explain the mis-spelling of Premire(sic) on the packages. All holders of this line use the dark green insert.

I'm familiar with Transline - they're one of my sources for supplies. I do have their catalog. I don't think that the holders are made in PRC China - but, of course, you never know. Are the inserts safe? Have you had any problems with anything like discoloration or anything which may harm the coin? I want to make sure the inserts do not contain PVC.
