Will or Should PCGS pay to be endorsed by the ANA ?

It is reported in CoinWorld Sept. 4, that the ANA will seek to endorse up to 8 grading firms, if they meet the ANA standards. PCGS was not named but would you feel more or less confident in PCGS if they were one of the "anointed" grading firms ?
PS--The ANA "imprimatur", as most things in life, is not Free !
I say, Who needs the ANA's "Seal of good coin grading" ! Maybe Segs, NCG etc., not PCGS

I do not know what are ANA's standards but I agree with you!

I remeber a thread by HRH himself explaining the story. I'll try to find it.
I understand that the ANA gets paid off - I don't understand what PCGS gets in return.
The ANA is endorsing 8 grading firms - no way are there 8 worthy firms.

<< <i>If they're going to endorse 8, there's gonna be a lot of schlock in there. PCGS would be damned smart not to have that scar! >>
I might add, if they do not endorse PCGS, that in itself will be an endorsement and make PCGS look even better by setting it apart!

<< <i>The ANA is streching it to find eigth firms to endorse. Must be trying to get rid of some of those money problems, there was talk of last week. >>
Bingo! Exactly what I was thinking.....creative thinking to get rid of problems, but in a short term type of mindset. I think they realized they left money on the table when both PCGS/NGC vied (sic?) for it and only got 1 payment from the winner. So, why not open it up and get even more money??
Trouble is the dilution of the value (and, really, what value does it give the top tier TPGS' anyway? NGC/PCGS don't need it. It is marketing but their reputation is done by how they grade and the timeliness of getting the grades.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I'll have no opinion until I know what it means to "meet ANA standards".
That said, it sounds like PCGS and NGC can both get a free ride. No way will the ANA endorse anyone else without endorsing PCGS and NGC.

Laura - Glad to hear you care so deeply about the educational programs. What course will you teach next year at ANA Summer Seminar? And we'd love to have you on the "Lie, Cheat & Steal" panel!

The same 2-3 companies for currency grading companies
One or 2 max for coin or currency conservation services.
That is where the 8 companies comes from.

PCGS (arm of CLCT) has not accepted NGC slabbed coins into theirs.
Who needs endorsement ?

I'm seeing a max here of 3+2+2=7, not 8. What are you saying, Greg?
As far as the endorsement, it is pretty meaningless. Is the endorsement going to cover all of the different series? Different TPGs are better for some series than others. To me, it's kind of like the star rating for hotels. I've stayed at 4 and 5 star hotels that were much worse than some of the 3 star hotels I've stayed at. I stay at the hotel that provides me the customer service that I need at the price I'm willing to pay.
