Potentail Gold NEWP - could use some advice here....

I posted a few days back what I thought was my finished gold short set (all XF-AU), till my local dealer / friend came in today with this coin....The coin in hand looks a little bit better than the pic shows, especially the luster..... but what do you make of .....
1) the grade?
2) the black spot on the Obv, under a loupe it looks like "rubber or scuff of some sort" on the surface, not dug in...not distracting till you magnify the coin
3) strike, the date in particular seems to get stronger as the numerals progress
this is the first $1 gold I've really looked at , the price is right....whatcha think ?????

A coin with AU detail should have some luster left. Detail wise, it looks like it should fit into your collection.

<< <i>From the images it looks like a (lightly?) cleaned AU piece to me. The dark streak at approximately 5:00 on the obverse, might be a grease streak. >>
can anything be done for the grease safely?

I don't know for certain but my best guess is no.
They said $150 was the best they could do and I thought that was a tad high.
Any thoughts?

Uhmm, This dealer drops off stuff for review and I have a few days to look it over.... The potential is I may get this one......
I'd net grade this to EF, and would say you could do better. 1852 is the second most common date in the Type 1 gold dollar series (1853-P is the most common) and the spread from EF-40 to MS-60 is only $45 ($165 to $210) on the Gray Sheet. And this is the type coin that does not command much of a premium.

<< <i>I don't see anything in the pic that would indicate anything but an original coin. Mark---What makes you think its cleaned? The most important thing is the coin looks authentic. Then can I assume you think it is authentic?....

Yes. It looks real to me but it would have to be examined in hand to make a definitive declaration of authenticity. Looks like a nice addition to your circ gold set.

<< <i>is that a die crack leading from the first A in america to the rim? or a scratch? >>
a quick look makes me think a crack, the damn thing is pretty small, and it would have been hard to have a scratch not hit the A or the rim on such a small area, which is the case.............
good observation, im missed that
<< <i>Small gold coins such as this one were extensively used for jewelry so be sure to check the edge for traces of solder or evidence of solder having been removed. >>
I did , all looks good there, thx
I thought the date looked funny ?????...no?

The sheen on Liberty's face looks unnatural - perhaps it's just the lighting/imaging. Also, for a coin with what look to be AU details, the luster looks a bit off, as well.
I really appreciate all the great info, this is a new coin to me that I havent spent to much time on
