    AT all the way. My guess is BernzOmatic torch induced.

    I would have answered nt if I got in on time. A BernzOmatic torch does not tone in this manner, it leaves coins with a very translucent color or if exposed to long a burnt look. This is evident that it has some accumulation of oxidation buildup around the edges and scattered throughout.

    He says right in the subject that it is naturally toned. So, everyone jumps on the AT bandwagon. It's ALL AT! There IS NO NT anywhere. It's all intent. image

    He edited his original subject line. It first said something to the affect "P.S. I know the answer". I still think it is AT.

    I found this while going through some wheaties I have had for years. It has a big hit over the N which shows how deep the toning is.
    It is a very worn , not worth anything penny. I can assure you that the toning is real. I posted this because all the AT hype has everyone
    questioning every coin with a little color.

    ok, im not a chemist or nearly as knowledgable as most on this board but couldnt you say that anything , be it paper, natural moisture, air molocules and anything that is not already on the coin itself be in the "enviroment"?, thus when it contacts a coin it begins its change / damage?,

    I could be way off base here......maybe crazy from the NE heatwave.....

    then its just the simple argument of AT vs NT vs accelerated T, that playful grey area image

    someone A.T`d it then a long time ago .........the toning goes on the rim as well

    it`s so A.T. , that even a sworn affidavit wouldn`t convince otherwise

    Do I have to give this coin to one of the "experts" on toning who everyone would take as fact. Or is there such a member? I personally believe all the members crying AT! on every toned coin they see have a lot of money to lose when this toning scam is exposed. Almost every coin you see now has some type of toning. Of course they are being doctored .... some are just better than others

    You don't have to do anything. Whether you like it or not and whether you agree or not, the coin looks AT to most posters, and please add me to that list.

    By the way, if people were worried about "a lot of money to lose when this toning scam is exposed", they would probably claim that AT coins were NT, not that NT ones were AT.

    I think you'd be hard pressed to find one reputable, unbiased expert to proclaim it NT, regardless of how long you've owned it or what other wheaties it was kept with.

    I do agree with Russ that it would be bagged for enviromental damage anyway.

    Even if it was slabbed as NT by a leading grading service, I wouldn't buy it. It's rather ugly.

    Since you don't want to believe the coin is AT... I will pay all grading fees if you get that coin in an NGC, PCGS, or ANACS (no problem) holder.

    I'm not getting this. You insist that it's nt, then use it to state that the toned coin market is a racket and will implode. As Mark suggests, you seem to be going the wrong way down your one-way street to prove your predetermined conclusion. If we had said nt, would you have then said ha, fooled you, you can't tell at from nt? I'm confused.

    the coin is not worth the stamp to give it to someone. In hand it isnt bad as far as the colors..just splotchy. I think I made my point with this old penny. There is a AT/NT line, and only when someone can prove by science how old the toning is , or if it was intentionally applied will I pay big money for toned coins just because they are toned.

    I think I know how this coin got "toned". It was swallowed by a Doberman (or maybe a pitbull). And then it was recovered from the doggy poop and CAREFULLY rinsed in Jeweluster, MS70, Nickelene, Acetone, dried with a blow torch and wraped in used toilet paper. imageimage

    CT (chemically toned), but since it's copper, I am uncertain of the chemicals that were necessary to bring about the discoloration of the original numismatic piece.
    It isn't a question of beauty or desire .... it's a matter of natural or unnatural. The Mona Lisa is as ugly a woman as I've seen, but the beauty in the stroke of the artists brush says different. This is unnaturally toned, but it is Chemical Toning, NOT thermal.
