In your hypothetical, does he have a coin I want? at the right price? Of course, I will deal with him...or anyone else under those conditions.

When I was drinking I would say all kinds of stupid stuff I would never say or even think of sober- the stuff he said and being as drunk as he was is pretty meaningless from the state of mind he was in- he say's stuff like this sober then I might never see his movies again like that freako insane Liberal actor Baldwin..........

Science can give no firm answer on whether Mel Gibson believes the anti-Semitic remarks that were attributed to him after his DUI arrest, addiction experts say.
"Alcohol is not a truth serum," says psychologist G. Alan Marlatt, director of Addictive Behaviors Research Center at University of Washington-Seattle. Because alcohol lowers inhibitions, it can lead people to say what they feel at the moment, Marlatt says. But in Gibson's case, "it may or may not indicate his true feelings."

Gibson's supposed rant about Jews does indicate that the topic has meaning to him, says addiction psychiatrist Bryon Adinoff of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. "Clearly, Jews are on his mind. He made The Passion of the Christ, and many reacted negatively to how Jews were depicted. Now we have a war going on in the Middle East. It's something that's on his mind, or it probably wouldn't come out when he had some alcohol," Adinoff says.

The remarks attributed to Gibson "could reflect pent-up frustration and anger at how his life has changed since he made the movie," says psychologist William Iacono of the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis. "People can lash out when they're drunk, and we don't know how deeply they believe what they're saying."

But Iacono says such remarks about Jews are unlikely to be random, "to come out of nowhere." Although science can't determine whether the star spoke what he felt, it's reasonable to think the remarks have some kernel of truth for Gibson, he says.

  • Yes. He is just a man like anyone else. He will tend to get drunk occasionally and maybe even say dumb things our of frustration. Just because he is a well known actor doesn't mean he is perfect like the hollywood types who so hypocritically think he should be. People need to lay off of Mel and move on with their lives.

I gotta agree here. He isn't the first person to get drunk and run off at the mouth and won't be the last. Hell, I have a couple real good rages in my past. I was always trying to be the perfectionist, especially at drinking, I needed to do it better than anyone else. I know there are some times I went way over the edge and there are probably worse ones too, I just don't remember those.

I will accept MG's apology...if he buys me a coin. image

Actually, a sizable contribution to the Anti-Defamation League and some outreach work on its behalf would probably go a long way to improve MG's standing in the Jewish community. Talk is cheap. But so am I, and I will still settle for a coin. image

Excellent question, and one I have some experience with. My reaction is the opposite. I LOOOOOVE everybody when drinking tequila. I'm the happiest drunk around, and not the staggering, obnoxious, slurring his speech drunk, either. It's like an adrenaline shot.

Don't bid if you hate Mel Gibson?

    Give me a break.

  • I'd deal with Mr. Gibson...everyone makes mistakes I believe, especially under the influence of alcohol or other such drugs. Whether he is a bigot or not isn't a matter to me. I'm interested in the coin and not the man's politics.

Even bigots, trash, liars, thieves, and good people have the right to say what they want to as long as they are within these borders. I do not think he is an American by citizenship status, but Freedom and Liberty to say what you want is supposed to apply to anyone within the borders of the USA.

No, I'm not Jewish but I've worked for a Jewish gentleman before. He was the best boss I've ever had, treated me very well and paid more than I've earned since or before. I have ZERO against Jewish people. Mel didn't speak for everyone, just himself. imageimageimageimage

Gimme a break. You don't know what he thought. I've said lots of stupid stuff while drunk (mostly about lovely women that I would never think or say when sober, mostly image )

I remember Mel Gibson's family back in 1968 when he was 12 years old and I was 15 years old.

They lived in the next town (Washingtonville, NY) next to where my father worked. Nothing outwardly obvious about that family about being anti-semitic at the time and I happen to be Jewish.

I believe he played Little League baseball as well.

If I am not mistaken, I believe he moved to Australia, the following year or two.

OH REALLY? And what makes you an expert on the level of professionalism of a law enforcement officer towards a person Black or Hispanic ethnicity? Or are you just projecting yourself in the role using the above as a mask for your own frustration?image

If he came to this forum and asked forgiveness, from what I've seen in the bad eBay deal threads and the coin doctor threads he would be forgiven and given leniency because after all, he's not a commoner, he's a rich movie star & producer and deserves special considerations & privileges.

And after all, don't we all blame it on somebody else when the cops arrest us? I know everytime they arrest me I blame my actions on the Jews, Bush, the feminists, the Budweiser Brewery, my friends or whoever I can think of to get the heat off me.
ps It never works for me. The cops always use their nightsticks, tasers and Rover on me and throw me in the back seat and haul my a$$ to jail anyway.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
