Dark Indian Head (Buffalo)

I have a coin, but it really dark and I cannot make out a date (if there is one). Is there a safe way I can clean so I can maybe find the date?

<< <i>I suppose considering the condition of this coin it has no more value than maybe a nickel? >>
Not so. Any chance you can see a "D" or an "S" beneath FIVE CENTS on the reverse (as can be seen in the image of the Type 2 above)? If there is an "S", the coin is worth about $20.00. If there is a "D", the coin is worth about $5.00. If there is nothing visible, the coin is probably woth about $3.00.
IMPORTANT! DON'T CLEAN THE COIN! Leave it as is.
<< <i>The line over "Five Cents", Right? >>
Yes

Type2 has a hollow, unraised mound under the buffalo.

Sure looks like one.
