Would someone kindly explain to me what the educational value is from going through junk coins? I keep seeing that comment in this thread and believe that you could get about the same value of education from going through the junk box at a local dealers shop for free.
CI has not been here since he bought the lot. Did we run him off with our comments?
A high probability. On the otherhand, he could be seriously contemplating the best suggestion posed thus far...TAKE THE NEG and save yourself HEADACHES. Whatever you do CI, I wish you the best. It takes a severe whipping to understand the riddle that is life.

What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
Bank on the fact you got about 8g worth of a group lot in that stuff once you get it sorted from plain ol crap, the BS stuff worth face, junker junkers worth NOTHING basically an the few halfas* pieces that are there. You blew about 8g+.
Should be a best lesson learned. Those are for the idiots and have no idea mezmarized jackpot searchers...heh heh heh!

I think the correct attitude for any would-be buyer of these mystery, unsearched, what-have-you lots on ebay should be laced with a healthy dose of scepticism. We're just trying to be helpful in providing that dose. It's a good thing.
CI, if you're out there, just keep in mind that ALL who have posted here have been numismatically burned, some badly, at some point in their life.

I for one am VERY interested so see what came of this.
CI: If you are there, please come back and tell us what happened! Obviously, the money is not that big a deal to you or you wouldn't have dropped 16,000 dollars in the first place so don't worry about it.
I know some of the comments were harsh but please..come back to us and let us know what happened! I swear we won't bite!
I totally missed this one the first time around, and was unable to see the auction listing through the link provided, because it had expired (over 90 days). Did the buyer receive his silver coins, and report on what specific coins he actually got?

I NPBd I must say that I sure have learned a lot since then! I had only been collecting coins a couple of months at that point and was still a tad uneducated in the great scams of eBay. I have since learned to not buy raw on eBay, to not buy "unsearched" lots on eBay, and to only buy the expensive stuff from dealers that I respect and trust.

I don't know, I see no negative feedback for this seller over the past twelve months and many positive comments from buyers of the bulk lots. Perhaps you have had personal dealings with this seller which leads you to level this accusation? If so, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.
In any event, in the unlikely event I ever decided not to follow through on one of my bids, I would at least have the courtesy to communicate my intentions and reasons to the seller rather than simply ignoring his e-mails and phone calls.
Hey Fletch- couldn't review the eBay listing that you didn't pay for, since it's been more than 90 days from the ending. Did see a reference to Mohawkcoin, though. If he was the eBay seller, then you sure did make a BIG rookie mistake... I've sold bulk unsearched wholesale lots to him knowing full well that they were going to be resold on eBay. I know for certain that he doesn't bother to cherrypick what I sell to him either...Too bad. And he IS a straight shooter. But I'm sure you thought every know-it-all forum member's opinion was more valuable than the possibility that there are SOME legit bulk sellers on the Bay. Did you even bother to ask the seller any specifics about the lot before you placed your bid?
<< <i>wrap?? my bank does not accept wrapped coins, only loose coins. no surcharges nada, you just have to have an account with the bank. >>
I'd kill for a bank like that. I haven't heard of a bank around here (in NJ) taking loose coins and giving back cash in years.
My cafeteria at work sells single-serve Pringles packages (little cans). I've built up 2 cans worth of change over about a year, and I'm working on a third. And I've got a huge tin full of coins at home. Unless I can find a viable alternative, they're all going to CoinStar eventually.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.
Commerce Bank, in Pennsylvania anyway, has self-serve coin counting machines in every branch. You don't even need an account to walk in and use them. Simply walk in, dump your coins in the machine, take the ticket to a teller and they give you your cash. No questions asked. They even give you a lollipop.
