I'm still waiting to see if my "Stupid Money" wins tonight..........only 300+ more coins till the coin I'm bidding on comes up.

I get to prove the stupidity of my money tomorrow. Not sure why the Silver Dollar Roundtable is always scheduled right during the silver dollar Heritage session at Long Beach. At least they are right next door so I can bounce back and forth.

Nope.......

......I placed bids on 16 items in the auction and was pretty convinced I would win 4 or so of them. Nope...nadda, zip. Stuff went for a LOT more than I anticipated...I'm kinda bummed out. But I did win on the Superior Auction. A PR 65 RB PCGS Indian Cent for a very good price....

I was watching live auction earlier and I saw a NGC MS66RD (I think it was red) 1900 Indian cent in an old fattie holder - looked like it sold for $1000 !!!

I bid on only one Capped Bust Half in ANACS 55. I was immediately overbid, and the coin sold for DOUBLE my max bid.

What do I know about Bust Half values after over 30 years of collecting them?

I was tracking that coin. I loved the look, but you bid it into obvillion. Thought it might be a MS 63 in an old Rattler. Don't think it'll 64...but...best of luck on the resubmission. Post your results when you get it back !

Similar story here. I bid on an AU-58 half dime that I believe was accurately graded at best and not a rare die marriage whatsoever. My bid was stupidly high, somewhere near $375 before juice. The thing sold for $575, including BP. Obviously, someone thinks that coin can be cracked out of its new ANACS holder, submitted to some TPG, and come back a 63. If that happens, after grading fees, shipping costs, selling costs, etc, the buyer will still be lucky to break even.

This post makes me feel so good....I thought I was the only stupid one in the bunch...
I actually chased after a coin on live auction after I was outbid on Heritage's site and it was too late to cast another bid...

I lost out on a mercury dime i was bidding on as well. Makes you wonder, if all the "intelligent" money, represented by collectors on this board are being beat out by people paying "stupid" money, I wonder if you could say the coin market is entering a speculative phase. That's not to say it won't keep going up, but from here on out the rise may be steeper and stronger than it was, and at some point after that will commit Hary-Kary?

I thought about chasing this to the moon, but don't have confidence yet in pricing PQ (IMO) coins, so I passed. Where I am kicking myself is a couple of months back I let pass a similiarly strikingly struck coin from a local shop for $550 raw. It appears that an internet bidder won the Heritage lot, since I recall this was the high bid before floor bidding began.

I think this coin (1900 Barber Half) could command a large premium no matter what holder it's in.

And I could see buying it with no thought of an upgrade
