Grade This 1911-D 2 1/2 Gold Indian Head 56k Warning

Hi, I was wondering if your guys could grade this 1911-D Indian Head for me. It's slabbed by ICG AU-55 and wanted to submit it to PCGS but wanna get your guys opinions if you think it will at least grade the same. Thanks. Sorry for the crappy pics.

I agree it's AU but would have to have it in hand to put an exact AU grade on it. Nice coin by the way.

I recently sold an NGC AU-55 (via Heritage) that looked more worn than yours.

Hard to grade indian gold from an pic, but if it has "pop" it could go MS at PCGS. Luster is key and the images can't show that.

It is nice enough for me to buy it! I think it has a good shot.
Great transaction with: Relaxn, Collectorcoins, OKCC

A lot of "chatter marks" in the fields and on the Indian's cheek. I'd say tops AU-50 and possibly EF.

If I had to go only by the pics it could cross at AU55 or even 58. Assuming it has not been cleaned. I doubt it would down grade.

Looks nice...Jade is correct, hard to tell from the scans/pics.

    Looks lightly cleaned.

    Nice piece.

I just submitted two ICG Gold Indians Graded AU55 and got grades back as follows:

    1 10651432 1910 $2 1/2 USA DNC ICG AU55
    2 10651433 1880 $5 USA AU55 ICG AU55

The 2 1/2 Indian would not cross at any grade, but I don't have the reason back yet. The $5 Indian crossed with no change to PCGS.

Good luck if you send it in.

Why does the coin look lightly cleaned?

From the pics it looks AU58 or better. It also looks lightly polished, mostly in the second and third pics. However, I don't think ICG would've slabbed it if it were... Good luck!

I do have a light glaring directly on it so thats probably creating the polish look. I would hate to send it in just to be body bagged.

Detail and circualtion wise it looks every bit of Au-55, but something about the surface is bothering me, almost like others have said it has a lightly cleaned appearance. (could be the photo) Impossible to determine from a photo, but good luck if you choose to send her.

You should get AU-55 or 58.

ICG coins tend to be graded consistently with PCGS up to MS-60 or so . . . . . . at the higher MS grades, ICG tends to overgrade.

Does ICG Body Bag problem coins? If so then I think it's safe to assume it hasn't been cleaned.

All grading services encapsulate "cleaned" coins. It's just a matter of the degree of the cleaning and the inherent inconsistencies in grading them vs. body-bagging them.

So if my coin were to be lightly cleaned or polished how would pcgs handle this coin?

I think PCGS would agree the details are AU55. If you really think you need this coin in a PCGS holder, my guess is that it will cross at the same grade.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
