Was it brought in by some nervous teenaged kid that took $2,000 for it? image

Can you post a photo with you hand in the shot or something to demonstrate the size of it?

    $1,500...

j/k - It was a very hefty premium over melt.

With the Kellogg & Humbert premium I'd say it's about $40,000

I believe he is in the photo - what looks at first like a smudge is actually Regulated sitting inside the 'O' in Kellog.

Here is a picture to give you an idea of its scale - and BTW, it was well over 2X the $40K estimate (the market on these is quite robust, it seems).

Thanks for the new pic..wow, that's BIG!

The melt value should be around $32,500 at current prices. If it went for well over 2x40K that is one HECK of a premium but I guess a Kellogg & Humbert bar that size is something pretty darn special. Very cool item!

And no, there are not a lot of fake Kellogg & Humbert bars out there. All of the known examples can be traced directly back to the wreck of the S.S. Central America.

That is really something! Nothing like a little Cali gold rush memorabilia to get the blood moving!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
