So, Do you think the Jefferson First Spouse Slightly Modern Liberty coin will be a hit?

MrSpudMrSpud Posts: 4,499 ✭✭✭
I figure it probably will be seeing how you always hear people saying "Bring back Liberty". I figure this is one that will be a sell out and will also tempt collectors to start buying the other less interesting 1st spouse issues. image

That didn't last long or take long.

Now even coins that haven't been minted can be bashed. People who will deal in coins that haven't been minted will be bashed.

    We could expect no more.

Man I sure hope so. I hope it bombs like the Pan-Pacs did............or at least as badly as the 04 proof plat half......in need another 4000 issue type coin with a classic liberty design in my stable........ and these opportunities will only present themselves as long as large segments of the market hold onto an irrational dislike of very low mintage coins with good designs and recent dates.................

I think it should have been a Sally Hemmings coin - by the time Jefferson was President, his wife was long burried. Sally was his wife's half sister, and she did more for Jefferson from 1800 - 1808 than his wife did.

I'm with Eric on this one-- the series could have even more going for it in the sense that it WILL end. Once it does, I bet we have entire run of coins with mintages of 4,500 or less.

The items will be a huge hit, provided the buyers can (continue to) be convinced that a NCLT bullion round is a "coin"

you missed the point here, as Jefferson was not married at the time he was in office, therefore a depiction of liberty will replace his missing wife.

  • I heard these coins might have a classic look, similar to the US Large Cent Bust design. Or are they planning that only for the presidents who didn't have spouses?

Only for bachelors. The rest supposedly will have images that are supposed to look like the Mrs. really used to look.

There will be alot of coins with low mintages, they will be expensive being 1/2 oz gold coins.....

  • Are the president coins supposed to be gold or the dollar coins? image

If the'yre dollar coins, I'd happily collect the bachelors' coins, as long as Liberty is on the obverse and the president is on the reverse. If they're gold, I'd only get one if they came in 1/10 ounce sizes like the GAE.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

The President coins will be $1 coins, golden color, just like the sac dollars.....

The first lady coins will be 1/2 oz gold coins.....

  • If the President coins won't have Liberty on the obverse, I'd be much less interested. It might be a good thing to get my nephew to collect, though, for the educational value.

If I remember correctly, the president dollar coins will have the statue of liberty on the reverse. The first spouse gold coins that will be issued at the same time will have either the Mrs on them or a slightly modernized classic liberty head on them for the presidents who were bachelors while in office. Not sure what is going to be on the reverse of the Mrs coins, maybe something eductional about the Mrs

Interesting question on Ms Hemmings--the "First Lady" was clearly Jefferson's daughter while in the President's (White) House, but since Hemmings-Jefferson lived under D.C. law, wouldn't Sally be the common law "spouce"? She should be on the coin.
