Yes, inquiring minds want to know if they should take off the afternoon to zip over to the convention center (This one works near the shoe)

I managed to get here today (I wasn't figuring I could get off work today). It's big, and I thought it was fairly busy for a Thursday. Had very pleasant conversations with MrEureka, regulated, poorguy, Anaconda, WayneHerndon, Tassa, vam44 and a couple others. I didn't get a chance to say hello to njcoincrank and coinguy1 as they were deep in battle doing a deal.

Why wouldn't you come? There's no lack of material.

The Loewinger collection of proof gold was on display at the Heritage table - if you like that stuff, you would really enjoy it.

I just have so much to do and so little $$$$$$ right now after having 500 sq. ft of ceramic tile installed.

Just talked to Kiefer on the phone. He says they just got in around 4. He's at some bar downtown.image Says that the show is large and that they (ICG) have some little grading tests/classes set up for the public.

I talked to him just after they got set up. The grading class is a very cool idea - they show you different coins, and you grade them, then you see what the TPG graded them. The best part is after that you get to discuss WHY the coins are graded what they are with Michael Fahey and Cameron.

That's a great public service, and it's free.

I was there Wednesday and had a great time. No crowd because it was PNG day. Not many dealers either. I didn't go today because it didn't open until 1 P.M. (unless you wanted to pay $50. to get in early) I will be there first thing in the morning though.

From the small look I got Wed. it is a great show. The best thing about Wed. was being able to talk with the dealers that were there. Some of them didn't even bother to put out anything, so they were looking to chat and chat I did.

Two of the warmest dealers were Chris and Melissa Karstedt at ANR. Melissa let me look at some 5 figure coins even though she knew there would be no sale. She even called back to ANR so I could say hi so someone there.

As I reported yesterday, I told some of the youngsters at Heritage about the afro that Steve Ivy used to wear. They got a big chuckle out of that. They said that they would be sure to remind him of that.

It was fun and there is no way I'll get that kind of chit-chat out of them tororrow. I imagine it will be elbow to elbow.

business seemed to be very good today wholesale wise. many of the dealers that i did business with reported strong sales. tommorow should be just as good. the weekend is looking dismal though. many reports that friday night is the last night many of the dealers will be in town.

The show opened to the public at 1pm on Thursday, a point that many people who showed up at 10am totally missed. Attendance was marginal after opening to the public. PNG Day was reported as being sluggish, while setup was better. During setup most dealers reported modest to strong wholesale sales.

On-site grading has been okay so far, although the two premier grading services aren't exactly giving out grade gifts. Most dealers also explained how it was easy to sell coins while finding material worthy of purchase was extremely difficult since most of the coins are the same "product" coins recycled between the different dealers which reappear at every major show.

Couple other comments... Anaconda had some stunning Barber proofs in 69 and 69UCAM. They were so sweet they looked like Gallery Mint products. The 69UCAM was as deeply frosted as anything made by the Mint today. Also saw some very cool coins at regulated's table. I will go back tomorrow for another drool session. He had the first double-struck classic gold coin I had seen. Turns out we share the same hometown as well (Pittsburgh).

I should also mention that I didn't hear any comments about the sales tax issue on either side of the table. Didn't seem to affect the collectors.

many dealers had signs displaying wholesale only because of the sales tax. i heard one dealer charging sales tax.

What mistake did they make on the DPL dollars?

Many dealers had signs at their table that read: "Wholesale only, no public sales". There are plenty of dealers who are paranoid of the tax situation for this convention.

I misunderstood the "wholesale only" signs. I thought those were actual wholesalers. Well, I guess that's more potential business for the other dealers.

they were older holdered dpl dollars that were only pl by today's standards. very weak mirrors on both coins.

i was wondering how many unscrupulous dealers were out there charging tax without the intentions of paying it to the state.

I'm hoping to be able to attend that. Read about it in Coin World as was VERY excited about it. How long is the wait? One on one grading help from professionals is well worth it for me. A book can only explain so much.
