It's a beaut, no doubt, but man I was out of that bidding in a hurry....I ended up with the 1862 PCGS PR65...Nice coin, but not as nice as the 1893.....image

    << <i>I bought it!

The coin really is incredible. Andy from Angel Dees was my underbidder. The other bigshot penny weenie dealers in the room choked! The coin opened at $3,750.00.

It doesn't matter the coin is also a stone PR67.

When you have monster color and killer quality, coins will bring the big bucks. Maybe 1 out of 10000 PR Indians look like this! >>

Yeah yeah yeah......let's see the picture when you get it (since I can bet it will be a better pic than heritage and I didn't have the pleasure of seeing it in person and really want to see it!)

The coin is an absolute monster.

It was just a matter of time before the market caught up with these beauties.

You need only to put a monster toner next to a "red" coin. If each were priced the same which would you choose? If a common date Morgan with 1000's in high grade can sell for 10-100x sheet, how much should these little gems sell for?

I propose that the grading services ought to discard the senseless system of "RD" vs. "RB" vs. "BN" currently in use for Lincolns and Indians. These non-descriptive designations could be discarded in favor of what early copper collectors use- "Choice," "Avg. +", "Avg.," "Avg.-", and "Scudzy." A blazing blue-green Indian proof gem could be graded as "Choice," as could a blazing Red example with pristine surfaces and killer eye appeal... while an average looking Red coin with carbon specks could be graded "average." That would put the designations more in line with current market valuations. It's just plain silly to penalize someone who has a Registry set full of blue & green monsters by marking them all "RB" when they are clearly not brown, nor are they inferior to Red coins.

I will reveal that Pinnacle was the consignor of record for this coin and will support the claims that this coin was a monster piece and deserving of a special price. The previous owner was simply "ahead of his time" when he paid a premium to acquire this coin. Moreover, a few people had the chance to purchase this coin directly/privately at a lower price, but passed. Congrats to its new owner!

Maybe 1 out of 10,000 brown or RB's may look like that, but no (or few) reds look anything like a brown indian cent. This is a matter of personal preference. I would take the red coin every day.

I'll pay a nice premium for a pretty toned proof Indian, but not more than the price of a red. Here's one area where I'll be behind the times forever. It's one thing for the farsighted owner to have paid a 2x or 3x premium for such a coin. He had far little into it. But today's premium is of far more risk. For $6300, I'll take a gem bust half, dime, or proof no motto seated half...or even a fistfull of MS65 or MS64 saints.

But congrats on being the new owner for a short while.

The bids for Indian cents in high grade Proof with the "Brown" designation are far too low. I paid more than double bid for the one (1896, NGC PR-65, Brown) my collection. Still this is part of the rich man's speculator game so far as I'm concerned. I can't relate to it.

Man I couldn't agree more.....I like the fact that the market is finally "on to them"...but now my chances of getting more just got harder (ie: more expensive)....Maybe they'll start ignoring the REDS now, It might be the time to be going after the Red and Browns a little more aggresive........who knows?

I will concede that coins of this stature are well above my means... Congrats on a very superb specimen Laura...

but, why is it that you can kick $300k on a coin but yet, you can't spend $100 for a digital camera and post pics of the coin/s that you won/win?

just curious.....I know if I even spent $1k on a coin....that coin would be in the initial thread starter.
