COMPLETED MY FIRST SET!!!!

drddmdrddm Posts: 5,475 ✭✭✭✭✭
Just got the last coin I needed today to finish my Liberty Nickel set and just added them to the PCGS Registry.

Pretty tough set to complete with all the ugly, spotted coins around.

Can anyone help me out with a link, thanks.

Dave

    drddm,

i know this sounds crude, but what was the average
price of one of those MS64s?

just how much did you have to suffer for your set? image

Congrats on the completion of your V Nickel set. Post some images when you have a chance.

My set is still mostly in raw state and averages AU 58. As is most of my Barber sets.

    Thanks everyone.

The key dates were not easy to find since I didn't want to settle on poor eye appeal.

I can honestly say that many of the coins have great eye appeal.

    Ken,

I completely agree. Why rush in finishing a set when all you are left with are mediocre looking coins.

I wasn't looking at the grade on the slab when I bought these, I was looking at the coin!!!

I keep making offers to Laura for her 1913, but all she keeps saying is, "add another 0 and another 0, and another 0, and....."

Not sure, what's next. I want to enjoy the moment for now in finishing this set.

Congrats on the accomplishmentimage..................wow, very consistant on the grades too, even more difficult to finding the right pieces in the right grade.

I'm still looking for 1 date to finish my set.................I hope it comes along soon.

    Thanks everyone.

The 1885 and 1912-S were especially tough. Both coins look GREAT and the 1912-S is definitely PQ for the grade.

One day, I plan on sending them all in for regrade and will likely get TrueView pics on most, if not all of them to add to the Registry.

    Thank you.

It was quite an experience looking for these coins.

Must admit, I'm happy I didn't settle on poor looking coins when I put this set together.

I intend to post many TrueView pics when I can get them to PCGS for review.

Sorry, no pics for now, but believe me, I will post some pics as soon as I can.

What a great accomplishment. Congratulations on putting this set together and I wish you the best when you have PCGS review it down the road. I would love to view it sometime at a show if the opportunity and circumstances permit.

    Well done.

    Thanks Glen.

I hope PCGS feels the same way I do about the eye appeal on many of these coins when I got them.

It would certainly be a nice reward to have some of them go up to 65.

    Dave,

Congrat's on a great accomplishment! image

I'm back behind you a ways both in completion and grade (I'm JTM), but the hunt for nice coins in this series is tough at all levels. Way to go on completing your set, and as everyone has said ...

I just looked at your set and noticed that you have an 1883 No Cents MS64 Eliasberg, is this true. I just recently purchased this coin off of teletrade within the last 45 days. I'm assuming that he had more then one of a particuler coin and we now both "Share" a similar coin with the same pedigree.

Congratulations! I love that series and finishing it in the way you did is very admirable. No good set can be assembled quickly as you point out. It takes a lot of time and patience, something lost on some registry afficianados.

As for the 1913, you don't have to worry about that until you tackle the Liberty Head proofs. Now, that is a particularly challenging set to complete with well-matched deep cameos.

The Eliasberg set w/o cents piece was a superb proof (lot 771, $6,380 incl b/p). There were 99 uncirculated examples in three lots, two rolls and a 19-piece partial. They commanded an average net of $78 each raw.

Thanks again everyone for the nice comments.

I actually have one pic posted right now, which happens to be my icon to the left. It's my 1885 and it was the most challenging date in the entire set to get as I wanted it fully struck and with great luster and eye appeal, which this piece happens to have. It is a scan unfortunately and one day, I will get TruevView pics of most, if not all of my coins.

Wow, all 64s. They must be exquisitely matched. Pics?

Wow -- I didn't look closely at your avatar to realize it was an 1885. Great toning! The 1885 business strike can be hard to find with good luster and eye appeal -- so many of them are prooflike in apperance. If all your coins look like that, I'm definitely envious!
