I'll be the first to pick it a part.

Why did they have a picture of the front of the package with the fancy fabric, but the picture of the back is on a table??

Did they recently buy 10 items to get feedback and then make the $4k killing on the Sac??

No verbage to speak of, original owners?? where did it come from?? I sent this question, will post the response.

I asked the seller to send me larger up close pics. We'll see what he says.

As others have stated before - something like the 1955 DDO was "modern crap" not too long ago.

These Sacs aren't some obscure die crack or barely visible doubling; they're true die variations minted in meager quantities.

That is STUPID money for modern crap! And I'm tired of the old saying that "everything was modern crap at one time". Because it WASN"T. How can you compare mintages of 6 to 100 thousand to the billions they have been cranking out since the 60's!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 1867 dime was rare from the year it was minted with a mintage of 6,000.

Not only are the moderns cranked out by the billions, but they are all BUTT UGLY!!!!!!!

And by the way. The 1955 DDO was NEVER modern crap!!!

I just can't sit here and see people compare this modern crap that is turned out by the billions compared to the classic coins of the past that were beautiful designs unlike EVERY dollar since the Peace dollar!!!!!!

And I'm sick of the old story that the modern coins are good to start out on because they are inexpensive. HOW can they be called inexpensive when someone is willing to pay THOUSANDS for a 1979-P SBA that were cranked out by the billions just because it is 67 or 68 or whatever. You can go to the bank and buy rolls of them for a dollar that will probably grade 64 or better, which is plenty good for a piece of crap that is BUTT UGLY to start with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was it STUPID money when they were bringing $600? $1000? $1500? $2000? I'll bet those who bought them then are having a good belly laugh at your assertion.

    Russ,

I'm not going to get into an economic(sp) battle with you on the moderns. But I will say this. What do you think would happen if all the top set owners of the Ike's or SBA's or such modern crap, decided to sell all at once? Who would buy them? The modern market depends solely on the Registry frinzy, because no one else cares!

Unlike the classic coins, which DO NOT depend on the Registry. People collect all of those series that could care less about the Registry.

Even you have to realize this! When the bottom falls out of the modern craze, and it WILL, whoever is left holding the modern crap will be stuck with it forever. Just like I am with my roll of 70-D halves. It's nothing but a $700 paper weight.

I am coming closer and closer to pushin' the button on one of them. One of the reasons is that you cannot be certain 100 % that it is the original reverse die.If it were certified with the reverse with details ...I probably would go for it.
As a Sac collector it woud be ....THE..... Finest of the collection......next to the Glenna Presentation Dollar............

You are delusional if you think the registry has the impact on classics any where near what it does on the modern crap. Classics were selling fine and going up up up BEFORE the Registry or PCGS ever existed.

Point EXACTLY. These Sacs are estimated to have a mintage of about 5,500 or 5,000. That beats your 1867 dime, dude.

Some people have a knack for buying at the top of a market and ignoring things
that are ridiculously underpriced just because everyone else is.

The '70-D roll toped out at about $850 and was at that level only briefly. This coin
could have been bought for as little as $5 back in '95 and if you did it right then you
could have picked out gems, DDR's, and sets with the small date cents.

I purchased one single set at the top but that set had a screaming MS-68 sm dt cent.

If you think that '70-D gem half dollars are common or that people will quit looking
for them then you really shouldn't buy any of this material for any reason except you
    collect it.

Having paid no attention to Sas except that they are in my yearly proof set and I occasionally get them in change at the Post Office I have to ask--how is the Cheerios Sac reverse different from the regular reverse--I understand that it is considered a pattern---what is the design difference?

I am surprised at the intense dislike of newer coins. They have to start somewhere, and frankly, someone who collects coins should probably base opinions on artwork, rarity, personal taste, I mean ANYTHING , but not on a knee jerk reaction to dislike anything because it just got minted.

Also the rationale that the registry set craze is fueling costs may or may be true depending on the coin involved. Now, consider that PCGS does not even recognize the Sac Pattern coin, and it is not required for any Sac registry. And it still gets $5,000 bids.

I would stop bellyaching and pick a few up, because if it ever does get recognized for what it is, and it does get PCGS recognition--well then, youre gonna dream of the good ole days when that there Sac from Cheerios only ran $5k. Im dreaming of when they were $2500.

Now pardon me while I go check out my Nevada quarters for cuds.

I don't dislike modern coins because they are new! I dislike modern coins because they are butt ugly. There hasn't been a pretty coin design since the Mercury dime, SLQ or Walkers. The absolute 3 worst are the IKE, SBA and the Sac dollars. I'm sorry they are just ugly!!

And as far as this Sac coin being rarer than the 1867 dime because there were 5,000 Sacs and 6,000 dimes.
How many of the 6,000 dimes do you think are still around???? And ALL 5,000 of the Sacs are still around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And besides that I wouldn't pay 5K for a Sac if it was unique!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For 5K you could get a 1885 nickel in 64 and get back change and you would have a beautiful and RARE coin!!!!!!!

LOL, you forgot to mention the obverse Platinums, but then they fall into bullion.

But seriously, things are what they are, and the Sacs have a great story, and while I agree that they gave 5,500 away, they did not go to collectors. They went to 6 year old cereal munchers, and who knows how many made it to see the light of day on ebay. BTW, I expect to see these sold by folks with almost zero buys or sells--these are exactly the kind of people that found it 5 years ago and stuck it in a drawer. Merry Christmas late--even if 1,000 ever show up, its gonna take a long time to search them out.

I started my SBA set it 1995, long before the Registry. It will not be on the market in my lifetime............................................................................................................

The Cheerios Sac is a very unique variety of the most attractive Modern coin. With around 5,500 minted and all distributed randomly to non collectors it is bound to be the biggest Modern rarity and rivals MANY classic rarities.

Given the number of collectors of Sac's and this coins incredibly limited supply, it has no where to go but UP!!

Comparing this coin to ALL Moderns shows a complete lack of knowledge of the topic. It is about as sensible as screaming about a 1913 V Nickel only being worth 5 cents. That kind of nonsense should be left to non numismatists.

    Wow....

It is amazing how the passion over classics/moderns raises it's ugly head here. Anyone who would rather argue value/collectiblity over the coin itself is not a purist or a true numismatist. PERIOD.

Numismatics covers COINS, fellas. It isn't about this coin or that coin. IT IS ABOUT COINS.

Sadly, we miss the open dialoque that is available when we try insulting a sector of our own market. tsk tsk.

I personally think the IKE dollar is ugly as is Susan B. And if you want BUTT UGLY , look at the FACE of a LARGE CENT. THOSE ARE UGLY.

One of my earliest days on a farm, I said to the farmer.... Geeeze how do you deal with the stink here ? He said:
It smells like money to me.

The cheerios sacagawea may be the last PATTERN coin we ever see again. It was a blunder, a major screw up. It is not a die variety. It was a coin made from a die that was not used for regular production. It was made in '99 and the powers that be changed the design pattern prior to it's actual minting. (sort of like the flying eagle in 1856)

There are some fascinating stories that go with this coin, much like the WISCONSIN leaf errors.

Deny the truth and the folklore gets bigger. Admit it and the value skyrockets. Try to knock this coin down and be a fool ! To each their own.
Who is a numismatist ? I AM image
