Couple things CT, Robinson Cano came up as a 22 year old, so the term "young" and "prospect" is certainly more valid than a 26 year old with almost ZIPPO big league experience. If Jonathan Papelbon does not SOLIDIFY himself as a major leaguer by the age of 27 I would think the "prospect" tag can be dropped.
And no, it is not ok. I hate it when players are compared to the greats of the game no matter who is making the comparison. I don't do it, I don't agree with it, I will never agree with it. This came from all the years growing up hearing about the "NEXT MICKEY MANTLE" all bull$hit.
Also, CT, Robinson Cano has done something that Jon Papelbon has been unable to do so far. STICK in the big leagues at a much younger age.
I find it funny that overnight, the votes "for" doubled.

I love the Yankees, but for F&%# sake, NOT every guy who played for a few championship yrs is a hall of famer. Why dont we just thrown Murcer in too, and O'neill, and Justice since he won everywhere he went, and wait, didnt some guys named Kubek, Richardson, Boyer, McDougal, Randolph, Nettles, Dent, and a host of others all win a few rings with the yanks ? Guess we can put them in the hall too.......better idea, why dont we just devote an entire section in cooperstown to yankee world series winning players.
Enough already....this is why 98% of the baseball world cant stand the Yankees.

I was watching a show on the YES Network hosted by Reggie Jackson about Yankee Hall of Famers since the Yankee were the New York Highlanders.
Reggie asked Jack O'Connell, a sports writer for the Hartford Courant who is an officer of BBWAA, which current Yankees woul make the Hall of Fame. O'Connell said A-Rod, Randy Johnson, and Jeter but he also liked Bernie's chance a lot. He basically said Bernie gets no respect and is underrated. O'Connell indicated when all is said and done, when writers look at all of Bernie's accomplishments including his post season records, he will get in. By the way working for the Hartford Courant I got the impression that he is a Red Sox fan.
One intereseting thing I learned during this show was that Hall of Famer Red Ruffing had an abysmal record with the Red Sox (just look at his record and high ERA) but in 1931 the Yankees saw something in Ruffing and traded for him. Ruffing went on to win 20 or more games 4 times. He had a lifetime 3.81 ERA so I question why he got into the Hall of Fame especially with his poor years in Boston where he lost more than 15 games 4 times (20+ twice).

hmmmm, no way I would consider Johnson a Yankee. He is just ending his career with them. A-Rod is a much different case.I would have to wait and see how long he actually plays in NY.

They saw something? What could they possibly have seen? His win-loss record went up because he went to a better team, not because he became a better pitcher. Look at his ERA before joining the yankees, and look at it after. It's the same. Therefore, he went to a team that scored more runs. It's pretty basic stuff if you look beyond the win/loss records.
I don't think Jeter is a HOF'er. His numbers aren't that great. That's definately a Yankees thing if he gets in. I think Rivera is more of a lock for the Hall than Jeter.

before the season started Jeter has 1,159 runs scored, 1,936 base hits, .309 career batting average, 308 doubles, and 763 RBI's. If those numbers are not on track for a HOF career then nobodys are.
Unless he gets hit by a meteorite he is a shoe in for 3,000 base hits.

I suggest you go back and look at the 'proof' you give.
I do agree though a case for being on a better team can be made. However with that said, his ERA improved on average by almost a point and a half. from 4.75 with the Sox to almost 3.50 with the Yankees. And in almost every year it was better then the league average. So to say his ERA was the same and it was just the team is WRONG.
I agree it is simple stuff when you read into it properly. As goyankeesgo has.
C'mon Gemmy......I'm a Yankee historian too. A guy from the Hartford Courant says Bernie should get in? So what. Yes, his stats are admirable for Yankee fans. Kinda like Jim Rice and Dewey for Sox fans. If he said Horace Clarke was worthy, would you support it? Regards.

O'Connell used to be the Courant's Yankees beat writer (Dom Amore is now), so I suspect he is partial to the Yanks. Dave Heuschkel covers the Red Sox for the Courant.
Spammy, being from CT, you should know that the Hartford area is essentially split between Yankees and Red Sox fans. I get NESN and YES on my cable, and we have to pay for both if we want expanded basic cable. I used to hate having to pay for YES, but it is kind of fun to surf between Red Sox and Yankees games.
Hartford's WTIC broadcasts Red Sox Games (via a feed from WEEI), but WTIC's best known sportscaster (Joe D'Amborsio, who does UConn Basketball and Football) is a big time Yankees fan.
Hardly any Mets fans in Hartford, though. The Courant's coverage of the Mets is pickup of the AP newswire coverage.
