Does anybody think this is worthy of a star designation?

If the image is accurate, I'd have to go with no, it isn't worthy. Common date with common toning. If, however, it has mondo blazing retina searing luster that isn't showing in the image, then maybe it might be.

<< <i>The star rating is not an exceptional toning indicator, but an indicator that the coin is high end for the grade. >>

This is incorrect. The rating is for eye appeal, not for high end for the grade.

I don't care what the holder says.....it's just an average grade of a very common morgan. That star doesn't do squat for that coin except drive up the price. Does anyone really think that coin would be a centerpiece of a group of Morgans?

NO! The reverse looks pretty nice as far as luster, strike and lack of bagginess. As far as the front goes, the color is almost there, BUT, not quite. It needs to be more complete of a circle, OR, brighter in color. Star should mean WOW! The coloring on that coin leaves something to be desired. I think NGC missed the boat on that one. Ray

If you want to see the sister of this coin, look at E-bay # 8387479698. It looks like lady Liberty is getting speared in the head! I DON'T care for it at all! How many boats can NGC miss? Maybe they need another silver dollar grader that knows what a real star coin should look like? When they first came out, there were MANY more deserving coins getting the designation. Now with coins like this, the star designation gets cheapened. Pretty soon any coin with color will get a star? Rayimage

  • Star for eye appeal? Its got good luster, but its not very eye appealing to me.

    Star should mean WOW!

That's always been my interpretation. If I look at a morgan, and the first involuntary thought is "wow" or "HOLY S**T!"- then that should get a star..... image
