The entire album will be filled with holed coins only. Most are purchased already holed from many many years ago but I did drill a couple of the ultra moderns like the state quarter and sacagawea.

I agree. The fresh ones don't look right. Especially when drilled not to interfere with the design. I thought most were drilled for people to wear around their neck on a chain, so drilling into the side wouldn't make sense. Top of the obverse would look "historically" better and more consistent.

Maybe you'll eventually find modern ones with holes you didn't have to make. In due time. Neat set!

BTW, Here's one I found in change a few months ago. Hole is in a strange place here too...

I'm also building a little type set of holed U.S. coins. Do you have any dupes? I'm still looking for these types: Classic Head half cent (1809-1837), Coronet Head half cent (1840-1857), Matron Head large cent (1816-1835), Two cent piece, Three cent nickel, Shield nickel, Jefferson nickel, Mercury dime, Barber quarter, Standing Liberty quarter, Trade dollar, Eisenhower dollar, Susan B. Anthony dollar, Sacagawea dollar. I collect only coins that were holed for a reason such as jewelry etc. I have a dupe of a holed Liberty Seated quarter, which it doesn't look like you have, plus some other coins to trade that I could list for you if you're interested. When I got the album I had no coins to put in it so that's when I went through my pocket change and drilled a couple out. They are basically hole fillers (no pun intended haha) until I can find examples of coins holed for a reason. Believe it or not, several of the coins are going to prove pretty difficult to find.

The original poster indicated to me he himself has holed more than "a couple" of these coins. He's free to do what he wants. But I'd say most people would look down on holing coins just to create holed coins, to deliberately damaging them just to be able to put them in a collection of holed coins. It's different if you find them already holed because they were once used in jewelry, on a keychain, or for some other purpose. In this case, rather than damaging coins, you're saving them. Whatever. But better to tell it like it is.

In collecting holed coins -- and there are others too who do this -- one question that several dealers have asked me is if I want inexpensive unholed slugs of Barbers and Seated Libs and so on to drill a hole in myself. What's the point of that? It's no different with circulating coins. To each his own, I guess.

Dude? Where the hell do you come off being all high and mighty with me? If I want to drill a frigging hole in a completely worthless coin I got in change at 7-11 then I will. All of the coins I drilled I got from pocket change like the roosevelt dime, sac dollar, state quarter....yes even the nasty worn mercury dime and others. Nothing that I drilled was worth or ever would be worth more than face value or melt value in the case of the Merc.

So my advice to you my friend is to take your soap box, strap it to the back of your high horse and ride right the phuq out of town. I mean how fugging rude is it to reply with BS about a person in a thread that person started for everyone's enjoyment.

Easy now. As I said, you're free to do as you like. In your earlier message you said you drilled a hole in a couple of coins. In a message to me you said you drilled a hole in two others. Now you're saying you drilled a hole in still others. In all the circulating currency coins? Older ones too? Hey, why not do this with all of the coins in your collection? You'd then have a really impressive holed coin set.

Thanks for the offer of the photos of the drill bits. That wouldn't be of as much interest to me as seeing before and after photos of the coins you've drilled. I'd be really interested to see the older coins. Have any Saints or other gold you've taken a drill to? What about Bust coinage, either Capped Bust or better yet Draped Bust? Can you imagine the oohs and ahhs you'd get from showing these off?

I'm new to the idiocy called Reid. As for you calling me a troll I think I'm pretty much the farthest thing from it so you know where you can stick that accusation

The reason I deleted out the first post in this thread is I don't want my collection to be tainted by reids lameness. Later on I will repost the collection in a new, clean thread.

No! You make stupid posts? Not this one, was it? You're coming to the defense of a guy who showed off some holed coins, later said he holed a couple himself, later admitted he had actually holed a couple of others, and later admitted he had holed even more. Stupid defending the stupid. He's free to do what he wants with his coins. Others are free to discuss it, to criticize it if they feel this is warranted. That's why we call these forums discussion groups. And that's why there's a First Amendment, why we have freedom of speech. And you're free of course to be stupid. You just weren't thinking, right? You saw I posted so you, without thinking, criticized me for criticizing someone else? Or maybe you agree with holing coins?
