So, is the consesus to NOT put proofs in a 7070?

Because they'll haze over?

    haze or tone?

I would think they should just tone. I have seen them haze in all types of holders from the mint, PCGS, NGC. Can't stop hazing. Just have to hope it does not happen or send it in for restoration.
  • Or get more easily and recognizably scratched by the acetate

Haze. Or fog, or what ever the term is.

I was browsing through posts of peoples pictures of their wonderful 7070's, and there was some discussion about toning, yes, but there was also talk about proof coins becoming hazed. I didn't read every discussion, so I wanted to ask if the general consensus was to try and avoid putting proofs in a 7070 for this reason. I've seen some of my coins haze in their holders, like you mentioned, but I was wondering of a Dansco album has a tendency to accelerate the process.

More personal observations and experiences gladly welcomed.

    my opinion is not to.

but others seem to think it's good to have PROOFs next to circs in a 7070.

I don't like the looks of mixing the two, but the poor performance of PROOFs may be another good reason to avoid it.

    BTW

    I had 1964 PROOFs in a 7070 from about 1971 until about 1998.

I finally pulled the PROOFs cuz they looked like shat after sitting that long in an album.
  • No proofs allowed in my 7070.

  • I find that mixing proofs with unc and circ type coins isn't visually appealing.

I had the same question about putting high-grade steel 1943 Cents into a Dansco.

The ones I have are original 67's, if not 68's....steel blue beauties to behold!

I decided to do it..........AFTER purchasing the optional Dansco Archical Quality Slipcase to house the album in.

A lot of it had to do with "showing off" the coins to people, as they are conversation pieces.

I won't tell ya to do it........just that I decided to take the chance myself.

    Hope this helps........

    Pete

  • what about putting proof wheat cents into a Whitman folder??? Would that have any adverse effects?

I wouldn't, for reasons of haze and milkspotting, but also because of the risks of slidemarks from the album slides.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

I don't like Proof coins as part of a type set period.....

My proof coins are in original government holders and that is it.....
