I'd bet my wooden leg that it looks ALOT better in person. You can just barely see the greens, blues and reds in the photo. Very eage to see your in hand photos after it arrives. I know little of the Barbers but if I'm not mistaken it looks to have an outstanding strike as well, at least on the obverse.
Now THAT coin is a looker... and as was just said, it will look better in hand.
I put Barbers in a special category (along with a few other series)... I call it the ugly if white category. While I can appreciate many coin series white, even if the design is a bit bland, plain white Barbers simply do nothing for me. Add original skin or toning, however, and I find the coins to be quite attractive. Your coin easily falls into the latter category, and few of the ones I see do. Congrats on a great buy!
From what I've seen Barbers tone up the nicest of any silver coin out there for the most part. Usually much more attractive than the monster morgans in my opinion.
Toned coins are hard to image. Maybe other people thought the coin was dead & didn't bid. NGC Barber coinage usually sells at a discount to its PCGS counterpart. The strike looks fine to me, and I can see the AU grade from the different color on Miss Liberty's face. What is the green thing on star 5? Am curious as to how it looks in person.
While I am happy that you are satisfied with your purchase, I get concerned when I get a coin "too cheap." I HAVE picked a nice coin cheaply, but it doesn't happen often.
"Vou invadir o Nordeste, "Seu cabra da peste, "Sou Mangueira......."
Thats awfully pretty. I wonder if it is darker in person than the picture. I would be curious to know the differences. But nonetheless a nice addition.
Very nice pickup......love the toning. I recently turned down a very nice NGC, AU-58, 1892 Barber quarter, at a local coin show, because it was way to white and lacked nice original toning, like your coin.
for anyone who cares/has not seen this yet. one of my favorite buys lately, and relatively cheap (with recent collecting habits, anything under 150 seems cheap!) to boot!

Handsome 1892 Type Two Variety. If that had been a Type One, you wouldn't have been the only bidder !
