Cleaned yes, but the toning just looks like typical album re-toning. A lot of cleaned ones get that blue/gold/brownish color being in an album for a while. JMHO
Don't have it in hand. I'm somewhat interested in purchasing this coin and I have the pictures. The splochiness (if this is even a real word) of the toning on the reverse, and the pinkish blueish colors are sometimes results of an AT.
The coins looks to have Choice AU details, but I wonder if it is worthy enough to be allowed to wear a PCGS overcoat.
I'm looking for an example for my PCGS Type set with some degree of originality, but cannot break the bank.
If the toning is not AT, I would bet the coin would look pretty nice in hand. I can return the coin within 15 days so I don't suppose there is much risk in buying it/taking a look, but I just don't want to hassle if the consensus is that the coin is AT.
It probably isn't but it sure seems to have that AT look.
<< <i>Hmmm could be my monitor but I don't really see any pinkish color just the blues and browns.

Funny you say that, because I use a Mac and it has different Gama than a PC. Interesting, because in all of these grade the coin threads, I always see a different coin than PC users...
Unless you guys are talking about dipping, I would disagree in that it definitely has been cleaned? How can you see any hairlines on that coin? I am not saying it hasnt, but I am not saying it has either. Not enough info via picture.
Here comes stman! Before I comment I need to know if the seller is a board member? It DOES matter ya know. Heh OK, I don't care. First I would bet good money the seller is RPholder or something like that. In my opinion the image has been tweaked. Take the image in photo-shop, back off the saturation and contrast a bit. Bid about 2 grades lower (money value) than it is hyped for, and you will be fine. Personally I feel that gold-brown secondary toning will look nasty.

STMAN...thats definitely not an rpholder image...Im not a big fan of this type of toning, but I can understand why others do...especially if it has some luster.....Mike
I actually never checked the properties, but after I asked him how much $$$$ I found the auction. I won't link it as I don't want folks yellin' at me. I don't mind getting slapped.... but I prefer not to get yelled at. Heh

<< <i>This coin just screams... 100% Original and never messed with in any way. If you want to know what a truly 100% Original 170+ year old silver coin looks like, then this is it. This is THE look, that perfect natural antique toning. There are lots of a sky blue tone and deep aqua blue on the rims. This coin has never been touched (never cleaned or messed with), it has been carefully preserved since 1832. This coin grades MS-62+, close to MS-63. It has no wear, >>

I think the coin looks way different when in hand. the pictures do not look right to me. The coin itself appears to be quite nice, and I don't see cleaning. It was probably dipped years ago and has retoned, but I doubt with the colors shown in the picture.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
If the price is right it might be worth it to see if it slabs. If it does not, because of it's nice looks it should not be to hard to sell it for what you paid.
This discussion points out more about the difficulty of judging a coin from an image than about the coin itself. Since I have not done any coin photography, I plead ignorance on image adjustments.
Please explain how and what you look for on the properties of the image. What is a rpholder?

Bingo.
Edited to add: If you really are interested in the coin try contacting the seller and see if he/she can bring it to an upcoming show. Would give you an opportunity to see it in hand and make an accurate decision.

Thanks for the input. I wound up working out amenable terms with the seller and bought the dime. Anxious to see what it looks like in hand. Here's a bigger photo of the obverse:
