I have never understood this pricing structure. With MS-60s and 61s available in a little over $400, why would you mess with a VG? It makes no sense to me.
I don’t like the coin that started this thread one bit. It’s been polished and is probably AT to boot. I’d also be leery of a removed mint mark. I’ve seen a few so-called 1928 coins that were actually S mint coins that had been altered. The 1928-S sells for as much or a lot more than the 1928-P in MS-64 and higher, in the circulated grades, it's a low priced coin. That provides an incentive to remove the mint mark.
Bottom line, I would not bid on this coin and would decline to make an offer on it if someone tried to sell it to me at a show. Life’s too short to mess with crap like this.
<< <i>If you keep your eyes open, you can get an absolutely awesome NGC, PCGS, or ANACS high-end AU 1928 for $375-400. There is no reason to d!ck around with this coin. >>
I blew off a perfectly acceptable MS-61 to a dealer for $435 after I had had it in inventory for several months. These coins are around and the date is overrated; but MS-64 and ESPECIALLY MS-63 coins are very saleable.
$100 max.... then I see where it is at (auction price) and think.... " someone is getting ripped" ! IMO

This one is a fine example of why.
