My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
Just curious--was that close-up taken using just the camera, or do you have some special set-up to get such close pictures?

The El Cheapo setup (has the Ricoh mounted on it).
<< <i>I have one of those... What settings are you using? >>
The settings vary depending on the coin. For the Stone Mountain, it was all auto. Didn't have to do anything but position the lighting to correctly capture the detail and color.
Some coins require manually setting stuff. For example, white Morgans in white holders are best shot using White Preset and a white card with metering set to Center Weight, but white Morgans in clear slabs are best with white balance at Auto and metering set to Matrix.
Basically, it just takes a lot of screwing around with different settings and lighting positions until you land on combinations that work.
<< <i>Also would love to see how far away the camera is from the coin???? >>
About 5".

Just the camera, no extra add-ons. It's also capable of much more. I have the fineness set at "standard", which is pretty much middle of the road.
Frankly, this image is a lot more about a great camera than it is about any skill on my part.

I like the way your lighting setup managed to capture the die crack down the eagle's left wing. Very nice!

<< <i>What camera did you use? >>
It's a Nikon Coolpix 950, so it's really only "new" to me. It came out in 1999.
