Are the EAC population reports skewed because "real EAC collectors" don't use the cert. se

Does anyone know if the population reports don't truly reflect that rarity (or non-rarity) of large cents and half cents because true EAC collectors don't utilize the certification services as much as other collectors? I was checking out one site, and it showed relatively hight grade (later date) large cents, and the certifified populations were in the single digits or teens. The price of the coins was very reasonable, too. Can anyone comment?

I don't do coppers. From what I hear about serious copper collectors, you are probably right in thinking the certification census does not correctly show much.

I'm an EAC member and have taken their course at ANA. This I can tell you for certain: The vast majority (99 to 100%) of EAC-ers hate slabs. TPG grades are typically disregarded, and their own assessment is made. Many of the slabbed coins that have mde it into the hands of an EAC collector have been cracked (including myself). I truly believe the population reports for early copper will always be silly.

As you know, EAC grades/standards are often quite dissimilar to what the TPGs assess.

One caveat: I understand fully why a person would want the protection of a slab for a nice early copper, but most serious copper collectors want to see the edge of the coin, uninhibited.

Yes. Stop by the large cent specialists at major shows and you will see that a very large percentage of their coins are not slabbed.
