CHUTZPAH

I get a call from a guy, over the weekend. He lives out of state, and was referred by a relative. He had 5 PCGS graded Dollars, all identical in date and grade, and asked if I was interested. I told him that I was, and I offered him about 80% (about $10,000 for the 5 coins) of what I thought I could sell them for. I told him that I would do a little better, if they were nice for the grade. He told me that he thought he could do better, and asked me if I could recommend another dealer, who might offer a higher price.

That took nerve.

Yes, that blows....btw, can you recommend a dealer that sells the same coins as you but at a lower price? image

Or, you could have told him to call someone that would probably low ball him, and see if he comes back, he deserves it.

Well......who did you recommend? Inquiring minds want to know?imageimage
  • The problem too, with these coins, was that all being the same, they would probably take six months to sell.

When he comes back and offers them to you again, make sure you decline.
    All glory is fleeting.

Believe it or not, back in the late 70s, I took some coins to Paramount in Dayton, Ohio. After I refused his offer, he recommended that I take them across town to Dale Williams at Williams Gallery. I did so and got about a 30% higher offer, (which I accepted).

I appreciated Paramount for their honesty and it also started a long relationship with Dale.
