Lot of talk about FS Jeffs the past few days. Here is a tough year to find FS Jeffs, a 79P. What slab do you think PCGS put him in.

  • I would say 64 FS only because of the mark on the nose and cheek... also the line across the left pillar on the reverse... the fields are really nice though.

I am going to go MS65FS. The light seems to be catching all the marks rather harshly... so I raised it one. Its either that or MS64FS.

Because there are candidates out there with markfree profiles of Jefferson for the higher MS66, MS67 grades, this coin should not grade higher than MS64FS. The strike is very strong and if the coin's surfaces are lustrous, possibly bordering on prooflike, I'd give it a MS65FS. And then there's the light nick on the
steps. You have a very nice example for this date regardless of what it grades!

I'll refrain from guessing because I remember when you asked the forum if you should submit it. I will say that I made a '79 at PCGS in the same grade your coin received. image

I do like the strike on that coin! The sharpness of the steps, evidence that a 6 stepper of that date may very well be out there! Imagine that, will you!

Hey Leo, this one is a 5 1/2 step coin so I bet there are a few 6 steppers out there also. Now that coin would sell for a nice chunk of change.

I am not sure... MS64 and the new Coinkat designation of Full Monticello- FM.

    EDITED TO ADD:

I guess I need to read the question better... the PCGS GRADE is MS 64 and it may not have gotten Full Steps

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

  • They called him Jeff. We all do.
