  Except that it would be obvious as not a clash.
  
  With a vise the high points would affect the high points. The marks would show columns on the ear, cheek, beard, and coat.
  
  With a clash it's the lowest relief affecting the lowest relief. The marks show where they should, in the fields and right up against the bust.
  
  No way to reproduce that accurately without going to a LOT of trouble.
