Jules Reiver Collection Auction Question

marmacmarmac Posts: 1,505 ✭✭✭
This collection looks amazingly deep, I have found myself skipping over Heritage auctions now in play and just surfing the Reiver Collection as it gets added. I have never been to a live auction before and I am starting to think maybe this is the one. Is there any type of big show being helds during this auction or is it being held stand alone?

This will be a stand alone auction, which will likely start on Monday, 1/23/06 and continue thru Friday. There will be at least two sessions each day.

As did I. That's as impressive as it gets for guys like you and me ST. In about 10 minutes I have about 20 of them on my watchlist. Very impressive.

Thanks for the info Julian. Stman, Cladiator- this should be right up your alley!

I think this might be a perfect thing to spend my free southwest ticket on. Now the hard part- come up with enough money to spend.

Save your money to bid, you'll need it...hitch a ride to get there image
  • I have a lot of sifting to do to find the lots that I want and think I can afford... if I place bids though, still deciding if I'll do internet proxy bids, or have someone represent me (Though I would like to go to the auction myself, it is not possible). I'm leaning towards having someone represent me live, but I'm not sure of 2-3 people who I would ask to represent me...

Yeah But, But, will they "cross" what would PCGS say? OMG, so many things to consider. Surely this should rule out many folks eh?
Must be a reason for the NGC slabs. They must be over-graded!!!!

Reguardless if a person wins an auction or not, I think the opportunity to actually look and hold over 1500 early coppers and over a thousand early/capped half dimes and half dollars might be quite an experience....

    My to do list-

1- Airfare ( free southwest ticket so done)
2- Tell boss I am going to be gone for a week- this will be interesting
3- Rent car big enough to sleep in
    4- Find money (the toughy)

marmac, I agree being able to be there would be priceless. I wish more collectors thought the same as you..... versus, seeing them
online, and saying they've seen them. If ya know what I mean.

Stman- in full agreement with you. I really think if one could sit down and look through that collection, he will come out a hell of a lot smarter and with a much keener eye after doing so. With that said, having the opportunity to look at all that wonderful material, it just ain't right not to drop some cash on at least a few things image

I was planning to take the wife out for dinner and a movie, maybe I should scratch that- make PB and J's and watch cops. That will net me a few bucks to throw in the official Marmac/Jules Reiver fund.

So who here is actually seriously planning on making it to this event? I can't as I have to stay and earn money to support my family and that kinda takes precedence ya know.

Cladiator, I cannot and will not announce my presence in public anymore. Why? One of our "Board dealers" called me out
and seems he threatened violence. Well that's at least one, and well, I'm very afraid now. LMAO

I checked this collection out as well. Where's it going to be held ?

Amazing breath and scope. Certainly liked his taste in reeded Bust Halves. More duplicates than I've ever imagined anyone accumulating. ( This is of course just one quick observation. )

um, ok. Didn't realize there could be issues with announcing one's attendance. Just add it to the list of stuff I don't/didn't know image

I agree. This should severely limit the bidder pool. You would have to be a fool to bid on coins in NGC holders. Thank goodness I've been around this forum long enough to have gained this important knowledge.image

Looks like a real nice collection. Unfortunately, only one Dahlonega piece. There are some nice commems though.
  • I've been waiting for this sale ever since it was first announced, there are several varieties that I could use. But almost every lot in the early cents have been slabbed and since I will not buy slabbed coins I will unfortunately have to pass on this sale.

I see a pretty decent selection of capped bust halves. Although not really the 07-08. Those are the nicest design IMO. Guess I better keep what I have.image

The auction will be held in Dallas, at Heritage Galleries, and you will be well taken care of.
