This "term" is just like a cancer, it spreads and needs to be wiped off the face of the earth.

It's a term meant to denigrate what 99.9% of collectors collect.

It was a "confuso-method" of marketing.
  • I think a widget is somewhere between a cool collector coin and a world-class rarity. Of course, all those labels are kind of nerdy so take it for what it is worth.

People who look down on others because they are not rich or
have a ton of money to spend on coins do not impress me in the least.

The Donald Trumps (or Trump wannabees) of the world with that
kind of attitude are just annoying egomaniacs.

  • ditto to Michigan!

I wonder if SOME of those who denegrate widgets are unable to buy them? This is a hobby, people! It is meant to be fun! There has always been competition among collectors in any field, but let's not let it get out of hand.

To coin collectors in other parts of the world, we in the US look strange with our hyper-emphasis on hyper-condition, lack of historical perspective and ever-present price guides.

Let's not get to the point where we know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I collect widgets. I also collect classic world and ancient coins. So what?
  • Wow...Such diverse definitions of the term "Widget."image

I was deemed a "Widget" collector this morning.

Why all the hoopla over a name for a commonly available coin? They are what they are and the commonly accepted business situational term widget is just as good a description as any, woodja believe.image
if you are a Morgan collector like myself then 98% of your coins will be widgets, cept many of them seem to command more than widget prices.

And a person with so little education as to not understand that should not be given license to apply it inappropriately and have it lovingly adopted by her butt-kissing sycophants.

ok, right pharmer, widget is a gadget, commenly used in graduate and under-graduate business case studies as an example of a whatchamacallit, an apparatus, a contraption, device, doodad, doohickey, gismo, invention, tool, object, thing, thingamabob, thingamagig, thingy, or even sometimes, a concept or idea...used to create discussion or controversy, commonly sarcastic, toungue-in-cheek, divisive, ungrounded.
  • I am still fairly new at attending the larger coin shows, and I have heard the term of widget used often by dealers to describe coins that are common
