Poll: Is the year over for coin buying?

RYKRYK Posts: 35,800 ✭✭✭✭✭
My perception is that the coin buying year dries up just before Thanksgiving. Sure, there a couple shows and auctions left, but people are focusing now on the holidays with gift buying, parties and celebrations, vacations, etc. Yes, people are always browsing ebay and online inventories, but activity has probably seasonally slowed. Of course, I might be dead wrong!

#2. I went overboard all year. It's time to take it easy but if something small pops up that I need for the collection I'll do it.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • ebay prices jump after thanksgiving into Christmas and really until around march,

i don't believe in the old adage that buying subsides near the holidays, looks to me
like people go crazy spending. I'm not going to be one of them this year, will wait....
  • I said this a couple of months and I'll say it again. I'm done for the year.image

Yeah, but this time I really mean it.image

Probably #2, but I will keep my eyes open. If I can bag a big purchase at a good deal because there's less demand this time of year, I will do so. Not counting on it, though.

Yes, and I can quit buying coins any time I want. It is very easy. I have done it several times this year already.

I have one "deal" in process, but unless a new XF Dahlonega hoard is discovered between now and the end of the year, put a fork in me. (#2)

What LeeG said...with the addition of the current Stack's auction.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

i think the coin market will slow a bit. that is about it.

regulars will always keep an eye out for something to add to their collection.
but dealers? heck, don't they ever want time off?
  • I'm done BUT Baltamore is coming up---or if a good deal shows up on E-bay--- But I still need one more Kennedy to met my goal of 90%---- O-kay so maybe I'm not done but I do show more restraint this time of year. I have been sending the Wife E-bay hints but that has never worked she just don't get it.

  • While you never know... I would say the year "is over", there is basically a continuous party from today till the 3rd week of Jan. for me.

But I'll be back next year!

  • One upcoming local coin show left for the year at which I doubt I will find very much if anything at all. I still have a few items on my hit list that I would like to get out of the way before the end of the year, but I have my doubts as to if I will find them. If not, one of the regular dealers at the show should still have a few upgrades for my Morgan set on hand.

Many dealers take a vacation in December.

I for one have spent too much this yr already and recently turned away an incredible barber half as I just don't have the funds to do it this late in the yr.image. I received an email from Bowers & Merena as thay have several high end early Lincolns in thier Baltimore auction. But I'll be sitting on the sidelines.image

Only wannabees take vacations. Real dealers are always working, looking for the rip...

Yes, it is finished for me; but only because I just made a major purchase this month.

  • Mostly with maybe a small purchase for myself as a Christmas present... otherwise, I'm saving for FUN... thinking about selling off the couple of Proof Indians I have to raise more cash for that... gonna go on a spending spree at FUN image Though, I might not spend too much at FUN... I would LOVE to get a coin out of the Reiver collection... but I don't want to save my money for the auction, and then not win anything, and at the same time also miss the buying oppurtunities of FUN... :/

Believe it or not, I am still working through the last circ hoard of Dahlonega, New Orleans, and Carson City $5's--for real. 4 coins are on the way. Hopefully, one or two will stick.
  • I've got a layaway with Steve Estes that I'll be finishing up by the end of the year. It's an 1858 seated lib half that knocked my socks off. I can't wait to post it here.
