Have you put on weight since you started collecting coins?

Coin collecting involves a lot of sitting around... surfing the Internet, examining coins, reading, etc.

Do any of you find it difficult to not gain weight?

The potential is there . . . but I counter it by a bit of running . . . and I keep my head busy planning new Registry sets, doing a mental inventory of coins, planning purchases . . .

Coins keeps my head occupied while on the road . . .

Of course the stuffing/taters/gravy later are going to hammer me.

  • I'm a teacher and I'm on my feet all day, my wife is an excellent dietitian, and exercising like a freak is my other hobby. I do ok image
  • Considering I started collkecting when I was six years old and I am now 51, I'd say yes!

Seriously, the temptation is definitely there. Middle-aged metabolism, sedentary hobby, rich diet, etc., etc. It's good I keep my collection organized to make it easy on my heirs!

Yes, my weight has trippled since I started collecting.

Of course, I only weighed about 50 pounds when I started!image
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
  • No, I actually lost weight. But thats due to my other obsession...... exercise.

    Yep, I gained about 170# since I started collecting.image

Seriously, I don't doubt in the least that coin collecting requires me to sit so much that it leads to weight gain. I am ONLY 45 pounds overweight.

Well considering I was 7 when I started collecting and I'm now 39, you might say I've gained a pound or two. Still, I'm a trim 145 and haven't really gained any weight in 15 years.

....only on my way to the safe deposit box, then I shed it just as quickly.
  • Actually, at one point, YES.

I started working in a coin shop that was located in a farmers market with a large number of incredibly tastey, but incredibly fattening food vendors. My lunches were nothing but heart clogging goodness followed by the deep fried treats that the Pennsylvania Ducth ladies liked to bring around. Fresh dognuts in the morning were no help. I gained a bunch of weight at that job.

But that was a number of years ago. Now-en-days, my obsession for cycling and running keep me in line.

No, actually I lost 120 ugly pounds since I started collecting. My ex-wife said I had to choose - it was either her or the coins. I still miss her sometimes. image

  • Sitting at a computer surfing Ebay, I often have a bag of cheetos to
munch on and maybe a coke to drink. Coin collecting tends to
lend itself to being pretty laid back.

I have read a coin book while on an exercise bike however. image
