1972 D Silver Dollar

Ok, folks, I'm really, really new to this. I've been reading your posts and learning about coin collecting. I haven't thrown out a penny since 1980 and now my brother has gotten me into looking at all these things. I must admit I've become more than just somewhat interested in it all. I've found 2 '98 wide AM's and a 2000 wide AM along with a few other coins I've been hording that look interesting.

Last night I found an Eisenhower dollar (72 D) with a doubled ear. And YES, it is definitely there. I don't know how to photograph it, or I'd send that to you to look at. Anybody have any information on this? Should I buy the farm? (ha ha)

What should I do next? I've never been to a coin dealer, and truthfully I wouldn't know who to go to. Any information would be appreciated.

Ok, here's what I could scan. Hope it helps. Thanks

Don't know much about good Ike dealers, but as for a photo if you have digital camera just take a hundred photos one is bound to be good.
If you have a scanner then use that just to post because you can get good close ups with a scanner even if the color doesn't show up well.

'Never heard of the "Doubled Ear" Variety, but that doesn't mean it isn't there!
Actually,...I like the idea of having a 72-D "Doubled Ear" to to go along with the 72-D "Peg Leg".
A close-up scan with high resolution would be great here. There are a few Ike collectors
that hang out here from time to time and could probably help you out.

    Happy Holiday!

If you are interested in Doubled Die Obverse and Doubled Die Reverse (DDO & DDR),...
I highly recommend a book by Wexler, Flynn and Crawford entitled "The Authoritative Reference Guide To Eisehower Dollars". Although not really new,...It has a lot of great pics and info.
It is the book that lauched me into Ikeland.
It also has some contact info in it....If you find a DDO that has not been found or put into Wexler's
files yet,....You can send it to them for verification. If it is indeed a new variety. It will
be put into Wexler's files and you will get a letter back (with the coin) that lists it and it's new
verification file number. It will also list the diagnostics and your name as the "Discoverer".
You can then send the coin along with a copy of the letter to ANACS and they will grade
it and slab it as a "Discovery Piece".
I had this done when I discovered a new DDO 73-S Silver Proof Ike...
    Now listed as a 73-S Silver PRDDO-006.

    Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!
